Special countdowns?

TOday is the 400th day mark until we go to Disney next year. I told the kids every 100 days or maby every 50 days we will do somthing.. anyone else do anything creative to countdown the (too many) days until their vacation? Today its Disney cupcakes.. the DH thinks we are nuts.

I love the countdown!! In fact, it's one of the reasons we've never surprised DS. - He and I would both miss the anticipation so much. (I'm not sure DH would actually miss it, but I don't think it bothers him either.)

We've never started quite so far in advance as 400 days, but have always had some sort of count down calendar. - We usually start 2 or 3 months out counting by weeks, then by days from about 3 or 4 weeks out.

Mostly, we just tear rings off a paper chain, or some equivalent, and do a lot of random planning sessions - looking at the book, DVD, etc. But I like your idea of small celebrations every so many days.

The cupcakes are a great start. If you've been before, I would plan one to be looking at photos/videos of previous trips. And I bet you can find how-to-draw-Mickey lessons on line and do that for one too. Lots of people do Disney movie themed nights. (I think there is a whole thread about that.) Oh, and I did do Mickey Mouse pancakes once. Those are fun! You can also make an easy castle cake by turning ice-cream cones upside down on a cake to be the towers.

I'm sure you will get a lot more ideas here as well.

We are going in Sept. For Christmas last year I made my kids a construction paper link chain with a link for each day. Every 15 -20 links is a special white link which means they get 1 dollar each to go in their Disney jars
