Living in Toronto ... west end.

Whose originally from Rome NY?
We have friends in Blossvale NY and go every year for "Honor America" weekend. Love the parade and the concert in the park with the fireworks... :o)

Guilty! I still have friends there, but the town is so different since the Air Force Base closed. There are times I miss the small town atmosphere, but I still enjoy living near a city now.

Welcome Mary!

party: party: :welcome: :welcome:

what we have done in the past is booked a room now! If the price of the cruise should rise, we then would have the lower price and have them apply the onboard credit to that reservation!
Last time we did this, price of the cruise did rise making only a $30.00 difference in between the one we had booked and the 10% discount..

Peter

Peter - help - explain this in english ;) - does this mean you have an onboard deposit and a deposit on a reservation booked on Jan 31st?

just not clear about this.

Why have the group discounts with the travel agents been eliminated? I heard that Disney just isn't doing it this way anymore.

thanks in advance. I'm still trying to get onboard with all this.

I have a better idea of where you are now. I've often read about the Garlic Fest but have never gone to it.

:disrocks:

We had several pre-cruise mini-meets with our last cruise group. It might be fun to have a NY/CT/Mass one if anyone is interested.

Is anyone going to the Disney meet that is being held this summer in Allentown. They are expecting 500 people this year - I know Ms. DEB attends this along with the Passporter people etc.

elaine

Not sure what you are asking :confused3

on our last cruise we got a group discounted rate from our travel agent - it probably amounted to about 10%. we ended up with one full price cat. 7 with 2 people and one discounted Cat. 7 with 3 people and they were just about the same price.

It seemed the travel agent had a certain number of cabins at the discounted rate - she had only one left when we booked (a cancellation) - second cabin was regular price.

I'm just learning as I go. When I priced the same cruise with another TA - I was given the full price rate because I guess they had no group discounts left.

Hi Everyone. We will be joining you on this cruise. We are also doing the EB repo right before this one...so we get to stay on.
Our party includes Paula (42), Alan (45) and Adam (18). (Ages now). Alan and I are self employed. I love to scrapbook in my free time. Alan loves UK basketball and football and working in the yard. Adam plays HS football, XBox and loves to fish and shoot. We are booked in 7509.
We are also going to be on the Magic WC 4/7 and I hope to rebook this on board for the discount and OBC. Here's hoping it will be worthwhile.
Paula

Welcome - this group is growing by the minute!!

Last cruise we had some scrapbookers get together prior to the cruise and share some ideas - that might be fun if anyone is interested in a virtual meet.

What he is saying is if you get a booking now and then check when you are onboard, you need to weigh the price it is then versus now and take into account your 10% and OBC that you will get.

His last cruise when up $30 from when he booked it so by booking onboard, he saved 10% (off of the higher price) and got the OBC so in the end saved more than the $30 increase.

Makes sense?

If the price is the same and you rebook onboard, even better :thumbsup2

Edited to add: I guess that's not what he was thinking :)

In our case, we would have had to book onboard this past Dec. before the announcement even came about what cruises there would be. Since we got a travel agent group rate which was about 10% off - I decided to just wait and book early with my TA. Of course now I am told by my TA that no group discounts were offered by Disney for this cruise. In hindsight, I should have given the deposit onboard.

When everyone books on that first day - how do you go about getting one of the secret vernadah rooms on Deck 5? Is it just a matter of booking as early as possible that morning or do travel agents end up with these few rooms?
just curious.

Hello Everyone - Add us to the list!! Rob and Amber.

Location = bottom of the ship -Cat 12!!! Yippe!! With no windows, 1 bathroom, and sometimes free bass from Beat Street.

So wanted to do the repo. Just too long to be away from work.

We moved to Saugerties from Jersey City, NJ. While I love this area - I am beginning to miss having access to the benefits of a larger city. I would be happy to move north to the Albany area - not big city, but bigger than here.
We are finding the schools to not be challenging enough and any cultural things you want to do require at least an hour drive or a trip to NYC or Boston.

I picture us moving by middle school unless something drastically changes here. But I will miss not having curtains and leaving the doors unlocked. ;)

Nothing like that free music from Beat street!!! LOL.

We must have been on the same Deck as the Rachel the cruise director - whenever we opened our door, she was walking by - my kids love her.

It's funny what you end up getting connected to while onboard.

So much to reply to!!

Hi Rob!! Glad to see you and Amber (and mom and dad!!) are coming along! Up for some foozball :rotfl: :goodvibes

Welcome iluvdisney!!

There are still group discounts for cruises, just not on all cruises. I nearly always book a fake date onboard (also called a "throw away cruise"), but I used mine for the repo. Yeah, you tie up the deposit, but on the other hand you usually get 10% and the onboard credit when you change it!

TAs don't have any advantage to getting the secret porthole rooms, or any rooms for that matter. It's all the luck of who gets to the room first!

Scrapbooking? I think we might be able to get Rob's mom to join us!! :goodvibes

Can everyone post what Deck they like best and why?

We were on Deck 5 in a Navigators verandah last time which is aft. We just loved this location because of the convenience - we could run down the stairs to the shows or dinner and we had the kids club on the same Deck and it was a quick ride up the Topsiders.

This time we will only have one cabin so we went with a Cat. 8 - they are all in the front of the ship which I am not that thrilled with.

thanks.

So I guess I should have tried that morning on my own to get the cabin I wanted and then transferred it to a TA. alas. live and learn.

Should I be checking daily for cancellations or just request this from my TA?
unlikely at any rate.

I did not find a minute while onboard to even think about visiting the desk to book another cruise. Can you do this in the terminal while you are waiting to board and there is nothing else to do?

DCL doesn't waitlist specific room numbers anymore so you just need to check for cancellations or have your TA do it.

You cannot book in the terminal and get the onboard offer. :( So you just have to tear yourself away from the fun to stand in line :worried: Or, they do have request slips that you can fill out and leave for a quote. You will get a quote before you get off the ship. You can make the deposit payment by phone to the onboard booking agent (while you are onboard). This is what we did last time.

I made one teenage girl very happy this morning in our house. I went online and got my DD and her cousin tickets to see Gwen Stefani in concert for this May in Atlantic City. Angelina is a big fan of Gwen Stefani, in fact she even named her cat Stefani. I've attached a pic below of DD's reaction from reading the e-mail that I sent her about the concert. DD has been bugging me for months about this concert, the tix went on sale at 10am this morning, I had the tix purchased by 10:15. BTW, don't mind the messy desk, it is a teenage girl's bedroom afterall. LOL!!!
