With all this talk of the rain for the next 2 days, I had to bring this up....

Does anyone else notice how cheap and flimsy the new Mickey ponchos are? Remember the old yellow ones they used to sell? I could keep that for an entire trip, and never have a problem with it. These new clear ones stink - They rip so easily. You have to baby the thing off of you.

I heard that if you bring a ripped one to one of the stores, they'll give you a new one. Is that true?

OK, good - Glad to see it's not just me. I just figured that the material for the ponchos couldn't stand the pressure of my bulging biceps and washboard stomach. :rolleyes1

In June mine ripped and I stopped at a cart selling them one day and asked if I could trade my ripped one for a new one and they said SURE!!! They took the old wet, ripped one and gave me a brand new one. :) Nothing beats the Disney Magic.

I agree that the clear ones are quite cheap, however, don't you remember how easy it was to lose a kid with the yellow one?!? About 10 years ago we lost my 10 year old nephew during a shower. Everyone (me and about 20,000 of my fellow disney lovers - it was June) was huddled together watching a parade in their yellow mickey rain ponchos and when the parade ended, my nephew followed the wrong family. EEEEEeeeeekkkkkkk!!! :earseek: My worse nightmare come true! (We found him within a few minutes. I pulled off my yellow poncho and stood in the middle of the street yelling his name....what a nut case...and he quickly saw his crazy aunt and returned to the family.)
I'm thrilled about the clear ponchos, no matter how easily they rip!

You know...they also sell the Mickey umbrellas from under the counter, just like the ponchos, and for $3-4 more, you can take it home and use it there. Can't imagine pulling into work wearing the Mickey poncho, now could you? ::MickeyMo

Good point, but I refuse to walk around the parks with an umbrella. There's far too many people, and I wouldn't wanna hit someone with it.

I did give in and buy the umbrella in June. Now it lives in my car. Yes, the new ponchos are a bit flimsier than the yellow ones but I do tend to like them better. The others were too stiff for me. And hard to fold up. The clear ones are much easier to handle. I have used the same one for several trips now.
And I only use the umbrella for those quick pop-up showers. Great learning experience for dd to show care for others around us...rather than just bulling ones way around, heedless to others in your path!

I still have our yellow ones and bring them back year to year. Of course the problem is DH refuses to wear the yellow ones :-)

Still got my yellow one! I leave on Sunday so it looks like I'll be getting some use out of it. :umbrella:

We still have the yellow ones & have the new clear ones, too. Frankly, I don't see a difference in the quality, but maybe they had some yellow ones before 1997 that were heavier??? I have a yellow one that has a rip in it, but I just put some of that clear tape on it. I use them when at home, too. I'm a Disney dork.

I will never forget the time my best friend and I bought the yellow ones in a downpour and were frantically trying to put them on -- turns out we attached ours to each other by mistake! We didn't realize it until we tried to walk away from each other. It was our own Lucy and Ethel (or Monica and Rachel) skit! Ah, Disney memories ..... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Why did I not know this when I went in June!!??!! I lived with a ripped one a whole day in torrential rain storm!

Oh this is good to know...

Last June on our first day in the parks there were a few clouds so me and DBF went and bought two ponchos. The CM insisted there wouldn't be rain, but we took them anyway. Later that night, right *exactly the second* after Wishes ended it started downpouring! We ran into Tomorrowland Terrace and put on our ponchos. Everyone kept asking us where we got them-- I swear we could've sold them for $20 a pop people wanted them so bad to get out of the parks!

I like the clear ones because I can see my kids underneath them. I've only lost my son once (not at WDW), but it about killed me. He would absolutely follow anyone in a yellow poncho if he had the chance.

We took the kids to a minor league baseball game a few weeks ago and I brought the ponchos along because there was a chance of rain. THey kept us very dry and the kids loved wearing them.
