I don't see the point of opening on Christmas Eve
Maybe one or two, but the bulk is always Christmas morning.
Now with DS and the overwhelming amount of things he gets between relatives/Santa/us....we have started some new traditions. My parents/brother usually come over Christmas Even and give him most of his presnets then. That way he can play with them all evening. Then Christmas Day we do the santa thing and DH and I exchange (though usually not much) at home and then head over to my parents late morning. My parents give my brother, DH and I our gifts then and we give my parents theirs. They usually save a present or two for DS to open as well. Then the extended family comes for Christmas dinner and more gifts exchanged then. Later in the evening, we head over to the inlaws where DS and his cousins exchange gifts. The adults don't exchange on that side of the family. If we wouldn't do some of his presents Christmas Eve, it would be more overwhelming than it already is on Christmas.
The day after Christmas our tradition was the grandparents made the rounds to all the grandchildren to see all their new stuff and play with them. That day was a day of just staying home and playing, playing, playing. My parents now do it with DS as he is the only grandchild. I always loved that day almost as much as Christmas! My inlaws could care less, they treat Christmas as a huge annoyance and usually give DS things like socks and underwear. Not that we aren't grateful for that, but we kind of wish they would enjoy the holidays a bit more, at least for the grandchildrens sake
