Rock on Super Goofs!!

Congrats, Maura, for placing in your first-ever tri!

I've been plugging away. Trying to be more consistent with my weekday runs since the DL Half is less than 10 weeks away. We'll be visiting my husband's family next week, though, so I need to figure out how to sneak out for my weekday runs as well as where to go to get in my 9- and 7-mile long runs. Should be interesting.

Hi Goofs!

Started July with a nice easy 10 miles. Doing the 2 long runs a week is definately making them easier and easier. Of course it helped that it was about 5 degrees cooler this morning.

Kim - I find that visiting my inlaws makes my long runs easier to get in. I love the excuse to get away and collect my thoughts. I love my in laws, but the running is a nice way to get a few minutes to myself. Good luck!

Lisa - I hope life is treating you well and that you are all getting adjusted to the new schedule. I can't imagine what that must be like. I wonder if it is better or worse that it is happening in summer? I miss seeing your post every morning.

Take care all!
Cecilia

If it wasn't up, I was going to go with "Goofs bring the HEAT in July!".

Got in 6.7 miles in 63 minutes...pretty nice pace, and we talked and laughed the whole way.

Have a great day Goofs, nice to see you back Lisa!

Mike

I have an hour run, followed by an hour swim...followed by a round of golf.

Also, I need a ruling from the judges:

How much of the time in the round should count for minutes for the team? I will be walking the course, carrying the clubs...surely SOME of the time should count?

Have a goofy day!

Morning Goofs. HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!!!

I am working on updating my spreadsheet totals and will get that posted ASAP. Although that may be tomorrow...:lmao: I hope everyone can forgive me for my lateness and lack of posting.

Cecilia: It is better that this change comes in the summer as the kids are home and I am not having to worry about school transport for now. It is worse that it is in the summer as beach days are limited and I am missing out on a lot of practices and such. So this is a 50/50 split right now. It will get harder in the fall/winter months with school starting and bad weather to follow. Right now, I am not happy with my decision and I am hoping that will change.

Mike: Love the thread name, we can use that for August. As for us here in Maine, it has been cool and rainy for the entire month of June so turning up some heat would be good. June was the 5th month with the most rain ever in our history with over 8.5 inches of rain. :sad2: Needless to say this has been a long month for everyone.

Everyone else, :grouphug: and

I have been working out and trying to stay on track. Most of my workouts have been lunch time walks or lifting at home. I am happy to get in what I can. Most of my days are getting up a little early, either lifting or doing a walk tape with the rain keeping me inside, working all day and flying from work to a kidlet practice or game. Dinner is later than I would like and then it just starts all over again. I am not liking the job, not liking the hours, not liking the drive and not liking well pretty much anything in general. I am going to try and stick it out for the summer and then I may switch back if there is a position open (they filled mine already) or I will have to go to another company to work. At least I have options. It would be great to win the lottery, quit my job and start my own gym...

Take care everyone and I hope you enjoy your 4th. It is raining here (no shock lately) so our fun is limited to indoors...again...

Hello Goofs,

I am still hanging out here in Michigan. I am still trying to get as much exercise in when I can, when I am not working. I will keep the spreadsheet updated but not posting on the thread much, but will try to do better as time allows.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th, the weather here in MI has been bad all week, hard to believe it is July. At least we saw the sun today and the temps were in the 70s.

See ya for now, Lynn

Heya Goofs,
Long time, no replies, but I have kept up the daily running. We just got back from Chicago-land earlier tonight, so I'll try to update the spreadsheet tonight; otherwise, it won't be until tomorrow.

Hi everyone, I hope you had a fun and safe 4th. We had a good time.

My day started with a local annual 5K. This was my first time running this race. I was looking forward to it as it is the 5th of 6 races needed to complete the circuit of our running club. I was also hoping to beat my 5K PR of 25:57 set in May. This was a much flatter course and most of it on dirt. My goal was to go sub 25:00.

It was a very cool, overcast morning and 186 people lined up at the start. I gave the imaginary evil eye to my arch-nemesis who lined up right in front of me at the starting line.

When the race started, he bolted out ahead at a pace I knew I couldn't contend with. Shortly after, I lost sight of him. I just don't seem to stand much of a chance against him at the short distances so I turned my energy to just trying to set a new PR. So...

The Good
I started sprinting when I saw the finish line and ended up finishing 24:22! In addition to beating my 5K PR, I also beat my overall PR pace of 8:10 from a 2-miler in December. At 7:52, this was the first time I've gone below the 8:00 pace which felt amazing.

The Bad
Even though I just had the best race of my life, I still finished 5th and last in my age group (35-39).

The Ugly
I passed a lady with about 400m left and then started my sprinting with around 100m to go. As I got close, I heard footsteps behind me but I just couldn't run any faster. She passed me and beat me by one second. Arrrrrrrrgh. This is the second time this has happened to me, the last time being my only DLF. I really need to work on my sprints!

The Uglier
I checked out the results and found my arch-nemesis finished just 10 seconds ahead of me. I swear he does this just to get at me. This is the fourth consecutive race we've finished within a minute of each other and he has taken three of them. Oh, well. At least he gives me something to laugh at and to work toward. If he ever knew how badly I wanted to beat him...first, he'd recommend I get help as he still has no idea I even exist...but then he'd probably work even harder and I'd never beat him so I'd better keep this on the down-low.

Well, I pulled another stupid stunt this week: I rearranged my long runs because of next weeks triathlon (I am running for a relay team.) Problem is that I didn't take out any of my shorter runs to account for the difference in miles. On top of that, I ran pretty darn fast (for me) at the Peachtree Road Race on Saturday. So my 16 miler on Sunday got pretty painful by mile 10. Usually when I stop running, the pain stops too. Not this time. My legs were still quivering so hard that an hour later in church, I couldn't stand up without help.

hopefully with some rest and a lighter schedule this week, I will be recovered before next weeks tri. My team wants to win the relay division! (so why did they ask me to run? I am an over 40 woman which puts us in the Master's Coed division)

The Uglier
I checked out the results and found my arch-nemesis finished just 10 seconds ahead of me.

I love to hear the tales of you and your arch nemesis! Its like a comic book story. Just remember that the good guy wins in the end! Way to go on your PR.

Cecilia

Hi Goofs! I kept wondering why you guys weren't updating until I realized, DUH! It's a new month!

So anyways,

Last week I was dealing with shin splints so I decided to do the next week or so on the eliptical and the bike in additional to getting to my TKD class tomorrow. I did 5 miles on the eliptical yesterday. The first 30 minutes was one of the pre-planned workouts and the second 30 (on a full body machine) was a cardio workout following the machine's guidelines. Tonight will be another 30-40 minutes on the eliptical and then a pilates class. I've never taken the pilates class at my current gym, so hopefully I enjoy it.

Steve I love hearing the stories about you and your arch nemesis. I say kick it up to a point where you are regularly finishing ahead of him and he will take notice!

Lisa Good luck with the job! I went through a really tough period about a year ago where I'm at. There started to be rumblings about additional management positions opening up so I stuck it out and got the promotion finally. I love my new job (and really should get off the boards and get back to work)!

Hey goofs! It's been a few weeks since I've posted...I'm getting settled in now at my deployed location (Guyana, South America) and hoping to get back on track with training. I started running yesterday, so let's hope I can keep it up. I haven't had a chance to go back and read the posts I've missed yet...I look forward to catching up!

17 mile ride, 3.5 mile run.

Fast fly by for me, just busy with work, training, spousing and parenting.

I might have to start getting up even earlier to get it all in...

Mike

Mike - what exactly is spousing? I don't think I have ever heard that verb. LOL.

I have to say I am having trouble remembering what DH looks like. Between work and tri training, we never see him. He sneaks in at odd times and eats all the food in the house. He has left no time for spousing. I think I am gonna tell him about this after the triathlon on Sunday.

As for me, I am still trying to recover from Sunday's long run. I got up early, got all dressed to run but I haven't gotten my butt out the door. I just sit here and watch the temperature rise....sigh.

Cecilia

Whew, there the first post is updated with team totals and totals for the month of June. I am now realizing that I have not been moving much as I only had 1 post for July...:rolleyes1 Time to get moving again!!

Joanne, OF COURSE YOU CAN COME BACK SILLY!!! We take any and all former Goofs back into our circle :grouphug: Welcome back!!

Cecilia, how do you do it? I know you all ask me that question but, hello, tri training, trip to Europe, kids in sports, life in general. You are completely amazing!! PS I am trying to get DD14 to friend you so she and your DD can start talking!!

Liz and Patrick,

Mike, Spousing, you crack me up! :lmao: Hmmm, maybe I should introduce DH to that word, spousing. Almost makes it sound sporty...

Everyone else! :yay: well okay I haven't been moving that much so :flower3:

As for me, work is taking it's toll on my working out. The endless rain here is also starting to wear me down. June was the 5th most rainy month in our history and July is following in its footsteps. Yesterday was a record low for the state at 58 degrees. I know you think you would take that over heat but, trust me, my house smells like a sponge and it is cold in here! I need to turn over a new leaf, before the leaves turn, which could be any day at this rate!!

So, I pulled out my strict clean eating plan and I am making a new comitment to myself, not any race and not anyone, just me this time. I hope you all will hold me to it. By the end of July, I will be back on my normal running schedule. Promise. :upsidedow

Have a great Wednesday everyone!!

45 minute swim, 45 minute ride, interrupted by TP flat tire....

Got my review tomorrow, and 60 pages of backup documentation...hopefully thats good enough!

I AM gonna run today.......

and I did!!! 3 miles in 26:45 no less. Thats my first run with all sub 9 minute miles. Wow. and a couple of years ago I was happy to have an 11 minute mile.

I guess I'm injured Goofs. :headache: I went to orthopedic today. They did x-rays on my shin and it showed no fracture, but he feels I have medial tibial stress syndrome??? He said this was a precursor to a stress fracture. I was given a steroid shot, anti inflammatory drugs and was told to ice three times a day and buy a compression sleeve for my calf. I can't run for a week and then I have to start back slowly. Starting at 50%, then the next week increasing. If I experience any pain I'm to call him and he is going to do a MRI. He wanted to give me a steroid pack, but I had a bad experience with that before when I got poison ivy - didn't sleep for like a month and my blood pressure was sky high forever... I was kinda thinking about signing up for a half this fall to try to give me some motivation, but now maybe not. :rolleyes1

And Cecilia, you rock! :thumbsup2
