Sparks will fly for the Super Goofs in July

Yep Waterfall Glen. Patrick did it last year, both doing it this year.
Only 8 weeks already!! Wow! Well we'll both be there to cheer you on!

I have a soft spot for this race...its the first longer distance event I ever did.

Have a great time!

9.1 miles, 93 minutes...had some pacing issues, but got close to 10 mpm by the end.

Have a goofy day!

After yesterday's incident decided to take it easy. Went to Argonne (trail run location) and got in 4 miles in 59 min - just walked it to get out and clear head.

BTW Mike - they've reversed the course this year. Going down Bertha instead of up.

Yesterday:

30 miles, 175 minutes total...9 miles and change running, 21 miles and change biking.

Here is is 0445, and I'm going to the pool...I'm REALLY ready for this to be over....

Morning Goofs!

Glad to see everyone is on chatting it up and supporting each other. You all rock!!

Shan, hang in. I am in a similar situation. Starting over, thinking I should be faster, struggling to "keep up" but in the end, what matters is that we are out there and not sitting on the couch thinking about it. I feel pressured for time running in the morning feeling that I need to be done by X time and continually checking my Garmin knowing it is not fast enough and I will have to cut it short. I love my Garmin and I always felt I could not live without it. But I am. And I am happier for it. Try running without it on a route that you know the distance. Use your watch, iPod clock, phone or whatever to keep track of your start and finish time. It will make you happier I promise. Pace is relevant.

Angie, nice job on the 5 miler. I am sure you were smiling at the end. You finished!!

Everyone else, :grouphug:

As for me, you can see from my post that I am struggling with a lot of things right now. Getting out, working through my pace challenges, soreness from not running, and then there is our endless rain. I need to run to relieve stress but it has been causing me more stress and I need to let that go. This is for me, not time, not pace, not anything else. Easier to say than to feel. My competitive side rules my world. This too shall pass I am sure.

Today is a short day for me, working until 9, then the real work begins, laundry, cleaning, groceries, food prep, etcetera. Hopefully it will be nice enough for a nonpressured run this afternoon, or a bike, whatever feels right!!

Have a great week Goofs and keep on moving for your personal best whatever that may be....:yay:

Lisa You hang in there! I hear you about the "competitive" part. I am the same way. I feel like I need to a) improve on every race, every time and b) do well in my age group. Even with training, I feel somewhat let down if I struggle with a workout.

That's why I've made a bargain with myself--run the shorter runs during the week on the treadmill, where I can set the paces, but for the long run on the weekend-NO watch--just run the miles, feel comfortable doing them and let it be. This worked well for me when I trained for the Donald.

(Of course, I am throwing that out the window-at least temporarily--for my current training!)

Liz Glad you are okay after your incident the other day.

Early work day for me today (I'm in between meetings) so plan to go to gym after work and.....swim! I've decided that now that I am not training, swimming may end up being a very useful cross training. I will just swim and not count laps or pace or anything.

Got in 2400 yards in about 50 minutes....REALLY didn't want to go, but got it done. I have 1:20 to go on the bike today, too...then DW and kidlets leave tomorrow AM for a weeks vacation, and I fly out on Monday for 4 days of training (not Ironman...work).

Pixie dust for a potential injury, please. My knee felt a little iffy after Monday night's run, but during and after last night's run, it just plain hurt. I had some swelling on and around the kneecap (mostly inside -- medial?) and whenever I straightened my leg, the knee would lock up. It is feeling much better this morning, but I don't plan on running today just to make sure. I have new shoes but my orthotics are pretty old so I hope it's a problem I can correct just by replacing the orthotics.

Ksoehrlein - lots of PD for your knee!!

Mike - you da man!

Big HELLO to everyone!!

I didn't do a thing yesterday. Ok did laundry, prepped breakfasts/lunches for today then sat down and watched Tour. Back of left leg was really tight so decided not to push it. Will get something in tonight. Not sure if I want to swim or bike.

Quick fly by. I got 3 miles in yesterday in 28:50. Not too shabby for someone who has not run in forever!! I guess I need to get back at it. Weight this morning and time to leave work for a softball game in an hour!!

Take care everyone!

Kim Hope the knee heals quickly.

Did my 4 mile tempo run today (huff, puff!) Came home to a nice little present---my race medal from Muddy Buddy. Nice and chunky! Not as big as Disney, of course, but it has a little heft!

Maura

PD for all that need it...the goofs need a Minnie Nurse!

Yesterday I forced myself to get in a 35 minute, 1.1 mile swim.

Today I have a 30 minute swim, and a 5:15 bike on tap...I might not post until tomorrow, what with sleeping and all.

Have a great goofy weekend everyone!!!

I'm leaving today to take the kids to the beach. Kinda a last minute trip before school starts back up. I'm hoping I can forget about some of my worries and let some of this tension go. I have physically made myself sick with some personal issues I'm having to deal with right now. I'm kinda in a nightmare situation right now. Is it bad of me to be looking forward to 2010? Our dog of 15 years is also about to pass away. DH is staying home and is taking her to the vet on Tuesday. I'm afraid they are going to stay it is time. Very sad, we got her when we got married. I have told the kids she might not make it thru the week and they need to be loving on her this morning. Anyway, I'll be back in a week, hopefully refreshed and ready to go. I hope everyone's injuries get better! I think taking off has done my shin good. I could probably slowly get back out there, but I think I'll stick to my bike and do some walking while at the beach. School starts back in two weeks and I can get back to my old running schedule then. Come on boring life, I need ya! popcorn::

Oh, is anyone doing the TOT 13K? Suzanne, you are right?

Cecilia, have you run the Labor Day 10K Classic? I think we're gonna sign up for it, but it sure seems like a super tough course! I'm wondering if this wouldn't be wise of me... :lmao: Those aren't hills, they are MOUNTAINS!

1 mile swim, 30 minutes.

85 miles on the bike, 5:15.

One recovery shake with a nap scheduled?

Priceless...

I did a last minute 5K today, it was fun...t-shirt or maple syrup when you registered, prize money or maple syrup if you placed, first mile was all downhill, so an easy start, of course, what goes down and all...2nd and part of 3rd mile went uphill, but not too bad...race ended at a town fair, all sorts of yard sale booths, food, bake sales, vendors (lots of jewelry), chicken bbq...and it's NOT raining (for a change)!

Hey all!

I got back from two amazing fun filled weeks at the Cape= one day of rain! I put in lots of miles and I'll post those later.

When I got to work today one of the CO's said- sorry to hear you got laid off!. My boss never even called me to tell me. As of August 1st I will be unemployed.
I really loved my job and I am heartbroken but I need to look forward.

Angie- that sounds like THE best race ever! Where was it? I hope you got the maple syrup!
