I grew up eating various canned meats (Vienna sausage, deviled ham), but I have not been a big fan in adulthood. So, when my now DH fixed me a lovely dinner of Spam and peaches I was pretty sure I would live through it, but couldn't imagine liking it. Surprisingly, it was fairly tasty and while I wouldn't put it in my main menu rotation, in the event of the above mentioned Spam emergency I know that I have a completely can based dinner that the whole family will eat.

P.S. It is actually very popular in Japan. You could easily find it even in the Japanese grocery stores. It is also usually more expensive per pound than sale beef or chicken so other than emergency supplies I don't quite know why people buy it.

I think SPAM is disgusting. However, I don't understand how it fits in with a struggling economy. The stuff isn't cheap! If the average is $2.62 a pound (like it was in May according to this articlehttp://http://www.businessandmediainstitute.org/printer/2008/20080530090549.aspx that works out to $3.50 a pound. I can buy chicken most times (split breast) for .99 lb or less. Ground beef for $2-2.50 lb. Pork chops or steaks for under $2 lb. I just can't see how it would save money.
