I just heard the shuttle will not launch before May 8th. That is the day we are arriving! We would have to do some rearranging of our schedule but hoping we will be there when it goes up! I have never seen the shuttle launch before. Where can we go to watch it without tickets? Thanks!

Just head to the coast. You should be able to see it from the shore line. They said on Friday there were about 700,000 people there to watch.

It really is something to see, but from the coast line, it is very small.
Yes, I am glad I saw it, but it is not like tv, you are probably a good 5 miles away and it looks like a small ball of flame go up into the sky. It did make me cry, knowing what I was watching. But I wish I paid the big bucks and was able to get onto the grounds and watch. The President was suppose to be there with his girls on Friday, I bet they were disappointed too.

You can see it from Orlando-you just need to know which direction to watch. You will see more of the exhaust trail than the actual shuttle but it can be seen.

If you want to go out to the shore, there is a great view of Kennedy Space Center from Cocoa Beach. Getting TO Cocoa Beach might be an issue though.

I saw it last May, I was staying at the BVW and we were out on the porch, it was awesome!! I have photos, just not on this computer!

would be nice to be closer, but this was still closer then I ever been!

If you want to see it from the coast, you will need to head that way very early in the morning. The traffic will be terrible.

If you want to watch it from the Orlando area, it is very easy. Just look to the east. If it is not terribly cloudy, you will be able to see it.

Here is a photo I took of a prior launch from my yard. I live right behind the Magic Kingdom. As you can see, it is very easy to watch a launch from the WDW area.

I hope the launch will be during my stay in FL. That would be really exciting!

We saw Discovery launch in February. We took a Grey Line tour to Kennedy Space Center and watched from there. You are 10 miles away I believe. If you are on the causeway you are 5 miles away and the only thing closer is the Press area. I think that if you are not in those locations, you are even further away from the launch.

I've also seen a launch from the Hub before too. I would love to get down and go to the causeway for one of the final launches.

Here is the link for the video I took in February:

If the link doesn't work I'll fix it tonight since I had to manually type it in.

Do they still allow people on the roof of the Contemporary? Before we moved to FL, we saw several launches from the CR roof.
