Space Mtn/splash mtn

Are these rides appropriate for smaller kids? We've got 3 dd's, 3, 5, 7. I don't want to wait in line just to get there, and it's too much for them. (actually, I'm already thinking it'll be too much for the 3yo, wondering more for the 5 & 7)

On our last family trip my cousin, 5, rode Splash Mountain and absolutely loved it. She has been on 4 times since then, and still talks about how much she can't wait to go on it again in March. She has not been on SM, however, as she is afraid of the dark. As the ride is in nearly complete darkness, I would advise against having any of your children that show anxiety in the dark.

It really just depends on the children themselves. What one 5 year old may be able to handle, the next may not.

I'm pretty sure there's height restrictions for both of these rides so this might not be an actual worry for you. Space Mountain is entirely dark it's fast, there's sound, you can't tell where you're going, might not be the best choice for little ones. Splash Mountain has more of a theme so its more kid friendly, there is the obvious big drop and a few smaller ones inside the mountain so you'd have to determine if these would be a problem.

I would think that both would be a bit scary for your younger two children. My son ( 5 ) sees that drop for Splash Mountain and feels scared to go in. I know that he would enjoy the ride so much because it is so sweet, and the drop comes on so quick and is over so fast that there isn't really much time to get scared... yet, I doubt we will take him on it when we go in 3 months. Space Mountain has just been re-done. Not sure what it is like now, but I would think that it would be a bit overwhelming for your little ones too. It moves around so fast, is so dark and "screamy", that I can see little kids, even if they fit the height requirement, being scared. I would air on the side of being conservative. If your little ones get scared.... they might be gun-shy of any ride that they have to go inside a building for... unsure of what they might find. And then, that's no fun for you at all because soooooooo many awesome rides ARE rides that you "go inside" a building for, like Pirates, Pooh, Peter Pan etc. Good luck to you, and do what you feel is right for YOUR family.

That being said, my DS (4 at the time) and DD (8 at the time) both absolutely loved Splash Mountain.

I did not even think of trying DS on Space Mountain... but took DD with me. She was terrifified during the ride.... BUT admitted later it was a good kind of terror!

Your the best person to judge your kids limitations... and you don't want to push them too hard.

Splash is really not too bad. Space even scared me a bit!!!

We just came back last month. My 5 yo loved splash mt. The final drop might be kind of scary, but he loved it. We would have done space mt, but he was too short.

You must be 40 inches to ride Splash Mountain and 44 inches to ride Space Mountain. I say the 5 and 7 year old should be fine if they are not afraid of the dark or have any irational fears like that. Just explain what will happen in the ride and let them decide if they wish to ride. Only you know what your children can handle. Also if you go on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority it takes you through Space Mountain so you can get a little peek!

Appreciate all your advice! I will definitely skip Space Mtn, but splash sounds fun. Do you get really wet on that one? Would we be too cold? (we leave next week)

oh, my...dont skip space mountain. if your kids are tall enough, they need to experience it. and splash is the best ride in the park. the theming is outstanding.

It all depends on where you're sitting. If your near the front you may get a bit of a.... splash

I just thought about something else... do you know about BABY swap ( or kid swap) where you can stand in line with your kids, each spouse ( or whoever) taking a turn at riding the ride while the other spouse waits with the kid(s) so that you CAN ride even if your kids can't? Look into this if you haven't already. We do it and it helps a lot.

There is a kid-swap for both Splash and Space Mountain. You would all wait in line together, and then one parent would ride with the kids who could, while the other parent waits with the kid who can't. Then when the first parent comes back, the second parent can then ride. The children who rode with the first parent are usually allowed to ride again with the second parent.

I took my now 8 year old on space mountain when he was just over 5 and I ended up leaning forward, holding his shoulders and neck back against the seat because I was afraid it was jerking him around too much in the dark. He screamed the entire time, but said he liked it. Of course it's now one of his favorite rides that he insists on going on as much as possible on each trip. Our 4 (almost 5) year old can't wait to ride on splash mountain next week (he's finally tall enough...couldn't get on in August). He's not quite tall enough for space mountain. I'm sure by our May trip he will be, but I haven't decided if I'm going to let him yet. He's a daredevil and enjoys fast rides and doesn't mind the dark, but I just worry about the fast jerking. I would suggest going on it first and then deciding if you think your child could handle it.

Splash mountain definately ok...only the one drop at the end....space mountain....it depends on your kids.
