The two sides are mirror images with only slight variations so they can cross by each other.
That being said. I prefer the right hand side. There is one drop on the right hand side near the end that on the left does not feel the same. It feels a little longer or a little quicker on the right than on the left.
Ok- Honest answers please. I am terrified of roller coasters but have told my husband that I might try space mountain. How long are the drops? Is there any place I can find out the drops(in feet) on all the rides?
Thank you!
To be honest, it's hardly a drop, it's just more thrilling cuz it's in the dark. My mother will never ever go on a roller coaster (cuz she's like me and hates drops) but she goes on this...as do I. I dont consider it a drop. It's like a little slope that puts your somach in your mouth for less than a millisecond. But it's great fun- I say try it!!
When I was in high school (mid-70's) we would occasionally hit Space Mtn with no lines. Once I did it 6 times (3 left and 3 right) in rapid succession and my conclusion which my friends agreed with at the time was no significant difference. I have a recollection that one side may have had one slightly longer drop, but not enough to say it was more fun or better.
The bottom line: don't do it 6 times in a row. (It is a little bone-jarring and jerks you around more than the newer coasters.)
I just went on it for the first time last month. I hate big drops and was so scared I apparently didn't even realize there were two sides. But I think I went towards the left and will say that it wasn't bad at all. The CM told me it was a 22ft drop (which completely freaked me out) but I swear I couldn't even feel it. I kept waiting for it and was shocked when the ride was over. So if I can do it practically anyone can!
Just read this and it says the drop on both sides is 35ft, but I was told by a CM the biggest was 22ft. I wonder if he told me wrong info although it didn't seem like any 35ft drops . Anyone else ever ask a CM? If I had been told 35ft I would never have done it although I'm darn proud I did!
There is actually 10 more feet of track on one side. I'm thinking the left side has the extra 10 feet, but I'm not a 100% sure. I use to know this. I'll go try and look it up. I know the right side is usally always open and the left is closed sometimes, especially when it's not extremely packed.
I found the info! Yay! Each track has it's own name too! Did you know that? I didn't! Here the info. about the 2 tracks:
Walt Disney World's Space Mountain has two tracks that are near mirror images of each other. The left track is 10 feet longer to accomodate for one to cross over the other. The left side (Alpha) is 3196 feet long and the right (Omega) is 3186 feet long. The large drop toward the end of the ride is 35 feet long.
