Any rumors(or facts) as to what is actually going on with the rehab of space mountain?

What we have been told is that the rollercoaster is being replaced with the same design as what is in Disneyland’s Space Mountain. They are also putting more lighting in the building and replacing the holding areas for the queue lines.

I don't know exactly what is going on at the MK Space Mountain, but the Magic Kingdom Space Mountain building is a whole heck of a lot bigger than that of the Disneyland Space Mountain. So unless each track at MK is going to have the same design as DL, I doubt it.

Even though it is a dark ride, I was wondering if anyone has heard if they are thinking of taking a photo of guests on the ride. When we went through the tunnels, they didn't look too high. My husband who is 6ft 4in, and was riding for his first time, in front of me, squished down really low. He was afraid of banging his head on a tunnel. I would have loved to have had a photo of his reaction. :rotfl2: Cruel, I know, but even he was laughing after.

im surprised at the lack of coverage of this! I saw a couple of photos several weeks ago but none since. :(

I am too.

The rehab of SM in Disneyland is sooooooo GREAT. I would think they would whisper a few things and we WDW Disney nuts who also travel to DL would be heading the cheerleading team.

SM in DL...

Comfortable seating
GREAT sound system at each seat
TRULY a dark coaster - well, it's newer and the technology is better!
Double the seating so more guests can ride in a day

One of the GREAT new innovations is the handicapped access in Disneyland. They actually remove an entire 4-seat car from the line. The handicapped guests can take all the time they need to load and unload without slowing down the ride line. When they are ready and comfortable - they just move the entire car into line and off they go.

I watched this on our last DL trip.....what a GREAT improvement.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

BTDT, last November -- I'm sure my wife would like that picture as well. :scared1:

it took 3 days to replace the track. its the SAME LAYOUT AS WHAT IT ORGINALLY WAS. no DL bullcrap.

they put a ceiling over the area where you could see the attraction. giving more light to the queue/load area.

everything else like, the queue lines and the load area is gone, waiting to be redone.

Where did you get this information? Hopefully it's not true, putting the same system back in would be ridiculous. It's own technology and wasn't really that good when it was put in. Putting the same junk in what certainly be a large waste of money.

Three days to replace the track of two seperate roller coasters? :confused3

Hmm, there is a huge difference between the system and the track. I believe wishdisney said they replaced the track in 3 days (replaced parts of the track?), nothing about not replacing the ride system. Of course the ride system isn't going to be the same. To change the layout and feel of Space Mountain would be ridiculous. It would be like taking the White House (post being burned down) and making it look like the playboy mansion. Space Mountain Disney World was the first indoor roller coaster in the world and one of the first computer operated coasters ("It's own technology and wasn't really that good when it was put in." Really, we sure about that?). These are firsts that have to be preserved in the historical significance that they are. Besides, each and every Space Mountain is different and this one was the first, the pioneer. +10 points to wishdisney!!! If you don't like what they plan to do, don't ride it. I'll be there opening day, and I will enjoy it for what it is.

well if it was the same layout as the original, it shouldn't have been a problem to put it in there in a small amount of time

You cant re-track a coaster, let alone two, in three days!

Load the track into the structure, probably, but re-track, I doubt it.

junk huh? you have no respect for disney and space mountain
Remember, space mountain is it supposed to be futuristic and there is certainly nothing futuristic about what is there now! Even when it was first installed it wasn't really state of the art in ride technology or special effects. It was a great ride but didn't really take you into space. Hopefully the replacement will take Disney into the future instead of back 40 years! Hopefully the new ride will be a demonstration of the best technology available.

Cheers to that KYMickey... remember to respect Walt Disney is to move forward!

i was quoting the junk meaning the track, not everything else in it. i dont want it to be exactly as it was, materal wise, before it closed down. you were talking about how you wanted the track being different, and if you are calling it the same "junk" as in keeping the same coaster, then i'm not going to be happy with that response. Space Mountain is different everywhere else, why should it be duplicated this time???

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Disney say they are just replacing the track, not changing it? Seems the only things they are changing is the queue area and stuff...not the ride itself....maybe I'm wrong?
