Space Mountain Rehab

Well, we'll probably miss it since we are going in October, but I rode it last year and it is time for an update. Then next time we go DD will probably be brave enough to ride - so it will be perfect :)

If Universal can build Rip Ride Rockit in 8-9 months from the ground up then I see no reason why SM can't be redone in 7 to 8 months. RRR is WAY more of an undertaking than tearing down and erecting a new one in it's place.

Luckily we get to ride it next week in it's original form one last time. Hopefully it will be done when we return the last week of October. *crosses fingers*

Oh, it closes a few weeks before we get there. A bit disappointed as I think DBf (on his first trip) would've enjoyed it. Ah well, I now have an excuse to go in 2010!! :)

Forget Disneyland, I want a launch start like the one in Paris:thumbsup2 I'm sure thats unlikely and that the version we will get will be more like Cali, but still a guy can dream;)

Why is the Splash Mountain water disgusting?

I've always heard that the water is unsafe. If you touch too much of it, you have to get a tetanus shot. I'm not sure on the reliability of that, but just what I heard while working at the MK.

And finally an announcement from Disney to hush the naysayers who didn't believe the rumor. In my opinion, rumors do not come to be for no reason.

:scared1: I hope that's not true - I swallowed approximately a gallon of the stuff sat in the front seat a few months ago!

This may seriously alter our MK time as none of us care for Splash Mtn (getting disgusting water poured on you and having your clothes stick to you - YUCK!)

You may be surprised to know that the water from Splash Mountain is drained and filtered every night.

Woo-hoo! My DD's first words when we told them about our April trip on Christmas Eve were..." I can't WAIT to go on Space Mountain!!" And I said... " ummm.... they're ummm... rehabbing it..." Now to find out it closes the day after we head home?? Wonderful... Thanks Cheshire Figment!

I think we've lucked out! We're going in late March-early April, so we'll get to ride before it shuts down, and then we're going again at Christmastime. I'm guessing that when they say late 2009 that means it'll be up by Christmas. We'll have to pay particular attention when riding so we can appreciate the changes.

It will be a long wait for us (we live close and go to the parks often, so we will be reminded a lot that it is shut down) but I am excited for it to finally be updated.

Side Note- I REALLY hope is isn't a fast launch like the one in Paris, I love coasters, but the fast launches like on Rockin Rollar Coaster really tend to do me in :(

What are the chances that it will actually shut down earlier than they have announced? We are scheduled to arrive on 4/19, and Space Mountain is the traditional first ride (as a nod to my late brother, since it was his favorite ride). I am considering revising my plans to arrive a day or 2 early in order to get a ride in before the rehab, but don't want to go through the trouble and expense if there's a chance it may go down a few days early. How likely is it that the date would be moved up?

Thanks!

SM goes down in Jan., then SM goes back up in Jan. and SM goes down in April but that's OK because we don't ride SM very much, but love SM and are glad its going to be up.

Guess that clears things up.
;)

Exactly! :lmao:

I hope the rehab includes an animatronic Barack Obama in each car and a Pleasure Island replacement along the moving sidewalk exit.

Oh yeah - and guns to shoot while riding so the wait lines can get really long.

The only thing that really upsets me about this is that my daughter's high school band is going to DW in May. For a lot of the kids, this will be the only time they ever get to go, and I really hate for them to miss out on Space Mountain.
