We live in LA and would like to fit the space center in with our WDW & cruise trip without spending another night at a hotel. There are 7 of us and I presume at least 12 pieces of luggage. We will arrive at WDW on Tuesday eve, spend Wed-Sat at WDW then go to the cruise. How can we fit the space center in with about 12 pieces of luggage? Is it possible to rent a car at the port after the cruise? We would probably have to rent two cars but then our luggage would be stowed in the cars while we were at the space center and then go on to the airport later in the day. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

We had a late night flight on Saturday following the cruise. We rented a car from Avis and went to the space center. I would recommend getting 2 cars from Avis. They pick up at the port parking lot, and are located about 1 mile from the port--very convenient.

what about checking your luggage at the port?...
is this option just for those with disney transfers?
when we cruised there were several airlines that had representatives at the port to check in luggage right there...
can anybody do it?
if so, then you can check in your luggage and then drive over to kennedy in the rental cars...

They both sound like good ideas. I''m wondering if we could count on being able to check our luggage at the port. From what I've heard on this board not all airlines are there e.g. Southwest. I haven't made our airline reservations yet and hope to fly American because they are advertising more leg room between seats, we're all tall;) Anyway, with the airline cutbacks I'm a little afraid of counting on it. It's a good idea and maybe I can check this board when we get closer to our cruise. Also I'll find out if anyone can use the service or just those with Disney transfers.

But if we have to rent cars anyway (I don't think a shuttle service would be a good idea if we're going to spend 3-4 hours at the space center) then we can keep the luggage with us. How far is it from the port to the space center? Also, NCRedding, did you turn in the Avis rental at the airport and was it expensive to take one-way?

Hey there,
Getting to the space center from the port is VERY easy - go West on 528 after you leave from the port - the second turn off is State Road 3 or AKA North Courtenay Parkway - get off there and go to the light - At the light you will turn North ON STATE ROAD 3 - from there it is a piece of cake -----keep going straight and you will come to the Space Center - from there on you will have full directions how to get there - that is something that noone should miss - it is history that will forever be with us.
I believe I still have coupons with $2.50 off tickets - if you would like some - just email me at snelsonbrown@aol.com
Always
Shirley

There is no extra charge for the one way rental. We rented a full isze for the day for around$35.
