Spa + Pregnant?

I will be discussing this with my doctor, but is anyone familiar with spa do's and don't for women in the first trimester? I will be very sad if I don't get to have a spa treatment, but it will certainly be for a good reason! I know steam rooms are out, but is anything else?

I cruised on DCL while pregnant (right before the cut off date actually!!) and got a foot massage and also did the Surial with my husband (EXTREMELY hilarious). I didn't go into the steam room (can't handle them when NOT pregnant) but was able to enjoy the rest of the Surial experience.

There are also certain lotions & oils that pregnant women should not use, let them know at the spa, they had to get the manager as the woman giving me the foot massage was not sure if the oils she would use were alright.

They were all very accomodating & even made sure the "muds" used in the Surial were alright for me..(they were). It was nice to have the woman giving me the foot massage talk about the pregnancy instead of trying to sell me some great oil or lotion!!

We were planning on doing the Suriel, but I figured it was out since it invoves the steam room. Would you recomend we still do it? We were really looking forward to it. Also, do you think I'll be able to do the couples cabana massage? I'm not sure about lying on my stomach for that long, etc. Obviously, I'm new at all this!

The spas around here won't do massage in the first trimester. I found that out the hard way when I had a girls weekend with some friends and I had to settle for pedicure and facial. My guess would be that DCL would adhere to the usual spa guidelines and massage is out too.

As i have learned from my doctor and pregnant friends, You shouldnt have foot massages until you are ready for delivery. Foot massages can stimulate early contractions and causes miscarriage. There are some reflex points that people use to start contractions..there is a pregnancy massage but i dont know if DCL does it.

When you are booking your appointments, be sure to ask them for recommendations. In addition to being cautious with certain types of massage, you will need to avoid some of the essential oils. When pure essential oils are used, they have physiological effects on the body. The therapists can guide you to treatments that will be enjoyable and safe.
