Spa at SSR - Anyone tried?

Has anyone tried the spa at SSR? Opinions? Is there a listing of treatments/pricing available? Do DVC members get a discount? Thanks!

The spa at Sartoga is closed right now. Probably until the opening of the new resort.

My DG Jana went last year and had a great time. They were cheaper that the GF and there was a DVC discount. There was a curtesy car from OKW.

I thought it had a very nice atmposphere and the parts I could see looked very good. Not sure when it reopens.

Hi,

My SIL & I went to the Spa on the 29th of June for a massage. It is still open during renovation of the resort. It is a wonderful place. Dvc Members do get a discount for you and your guest!

Enjoy it! If your getting a massage ask for Jennifer. She was fantastic! The person my SIL got was not so great.

Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort - The Spa will close July 25, 2003 and will reopen when the new resort opens in Spring 2004.

The one highlight of all my trips anywhere is my spa afternoon. It is an afternon just for me when the kids are with DH and I can relax. I chose the spa at GF last time we went. I was treated like trash from the minute I walked in. The computers were down and they could not charge to the room and were upset that I did not have the cash. I am a slightly plus size woman due to just having a baby and they told me that they would not be able to find a robe to fit me. I don't think size 16 is extremely big. The slippers only went to size 8 so I had to wait in my clothes until the massage therapist arrived. When I left they never told me about the curtesy cab back to the hotel, just told me the tram would take me back.

I have been to many spas and this one was the worst. It is run by an outside contractor not Disney. Maybe that is the proble.

Sorry about your experience. I noticed a bit of an attitude when I was there last year. I only had a manicure, and that was enough, given the level of service. I am hopeful that the SSR spa will be a bit better, but if they are all run by the same non-Disney organization, perhaps I should just skip the spa.

What we experienced was very different. The staff at SS was very friendly and I do believe that the spa is run/owned by Disney?.

I'm not the type of woman that usually goes for any kind of treatment. So this was new to me but I didn't feel out of my element at all.

jdkdorn, I certainly hope that you told someone about your experience as nobody should be treated like that! Especially when their paying for it! Yikes.

The Spa at SSR is run by Disney and the people there are lovely. Even though we stay at the Polynesian often I'd go to SSR. I occasionally stop at the Spa at GF to buy nail polish and agree that some CMs there have an attitude. I'll be waiting until the Spa at SSR reopens in the Spring before I return to a Spa. Anyone hear if those nice people all have jobs at WDW until it does reopen?

Anyone going this week can still enjoy it. Closes the 25th I think.

Oops forgot....pretty sure the free transportation is only offered to Spa at SSR (and golf courses) because it is the only one run by WDW.

The free transportation was offered due to the lack of bus service to this resort.

Unfortunately, it is closing during the next phase of renovation.

DH had a massage at OKW that he enjoyed. You have to give them some advance notice as the masseuse is "on call."

I have to say I'm shocked at this and feel terrible for you, but the GF spa must have been having a terrible day! They are usually quite amazing. I've been there several times and go to spas on a regular basis and I've never had anything but the best to say for the treatments, therapists and staff at GF -- we did have a confusion with a CM discount a few years back, but they did their best to make it right for me and I actually came out of it quite impressed by their quick thinking.

The last time I went was last summer and let's just say until recently I was a size 24 (I've lost 87 lbs since then thanks to Weight Watchers) -- they've never had any problems finding me robes or slippers (I wear a size 10 or 11 depending on the shoe) and I've always had the best service.

I'm so sorry the GF spa was such a bad experience for you!!!

Made good use of the SSR Spa during this last OKW stay. They are closing on the 25th. It was a shock to some of the staff, but the Spa is also undergoing major changes and must be closed. One "rumor" has it that the swimming pool will be filled in and that will become office space and that some of the space that is the fitness area, may be used as well. The CMs were wonderful. A 10 day pass for the fitness area including use of the sauna, pool, whirlpool and other facilities was $45 for the family and they made it a LOS no extra charge.

Saw the pool slide at the SSR main pool being installed and the faux rock formations being constructed. This area, which used to be the amphitheatre at the DI, will be a good walk from the 1st phase villas. It would be great if they kept the golf carts that you could rent while at DI.

Yikes, I was getting scared there. I made reservations for myself and my girlfriend for a "girl day" at the GF the first week in Aug for a "spa sampler" package. Our first choice was SSR, but that will be closed, so I figured the GF had to be just as good!

I am hoping that the incident that jdkdorn reported was an isolated one, because us gals have been looking forward to our time at the spa for a LONG time!!!!!

I called GF Spa on Friday for a spa treatment in 10 days. I'll let you know how it went. They were very nice over the phone.

I am very upset that jdkdorn had a bad experience. As a plus-sized woman before weight watchers, and still a few pounds away from my ideal weight, I find that kind of treatment reprehensible. There is NOTHING worse than receiving that kind of treatment when we are all concerned about our weight! If Disney wasn't notified, they should be!!! SSR, by contrast, made me feel like a size 6, they were so nice, and I wasn't self-conscious at all. I would have recommended SSR to all plus-sized women, it's a shame they are closed. I just hope they get the same people back when they reopen.

The SSR Spa will reopen when the resort opens in May 2004. I have been trying to get a more definate date since we have allotted over $1000 for spa treatments at SSR during our glorious, probably "once in a lfetime" 19 day trip next spring. I emailed the SSR spa and asked if they had any more specific date, have not heard back yet and don't really think I'll know any more until things get a bit closer. I also had a less than stellar experience at the GF spa and that is why we are so hoping that SSR opens a bit early. All our times there were truly blissful!
