Southwest to HNL

Tink..how are the logistics of JFK itself? We live about 4 hours from JFK (central PA) and this is the only non stop in the area from Hawaiian Air? We will be coming off the red eye on 4th of July and then driving the 4 hours home. Is JFK a nightmare?
Hawaiian is in the Jetblue terminal which is comparatively chill. It’s also attached to the TWA hotel where you can get day passes/stay overnight and is just generally very cool. United goes out of Newark direct and would probably be closer - not my favorite airport, but prob more convenient from PA

I didn't think they had the equipment to handle that long of a haul... I may be wrong on that.

Seem to recall that they would expand once they got the right planes, but the ones they wanted were the 737-MAX. Then Covid hit.

ETA: Found this in a Dallas Morning News article fromMay 13, 2021…

“A direct flight from Love Field is unlikely, at least with the current generation of airplanes that Southwest flies. Honolulu is about 3,800 air miles from Dallas, the very upper end of the range for a 737 Max jet. And since Southwest flies Boeing 737 jets exclusively for now and likely the next decade or more, North Texas passengers will have to make a West Coast stop or fly American, which does have a daily route from DFW International Airport to Kona on the Big Island.”

American also has direct flight from DFW to HNL… that’s what we’re taking in February.

We have expiring Hawaiian air miles so we have to use them, otherwise Dulles or Newark for United would be much better! Getting in and out of that area and a 4 hours drive after a red eye is not something I am looking forward to..yes we were planning on parking and then taking the airtrain to the TWA hotel for the night

Ahh!! Gotcha! The TWA does have a “deal” for park and fly - normal valet rates then 20ish dollars a night (which is pretty good). I LOVE that hotel! Our JFK to HNL flight in July was amazing- great crew!

I was looking at the JFK long term parking but I will check out the park and fly! Way easier!

Unfortunately from BNA it’s almost always true. Maybe not from ATL, though, so OP might check there, depending on where they actually live.
Thanks - Atlanta is about 5 hour drive for us. Might not be terrible going, but would be a brutal drive home after the flight. We are about 30 minutes South of Louisville (which doesn't have any better options) and 2 hours North of Nashville.

If you're not near a major airport, I would seriously consider booking two separate flights on two separate airlines. Maybe there's nothing good from Louisville to Honolulu, but can you find a decent Louisville to LAX (or any west coast airport)? Then reopen your search to all airlines and book LAX to HNL as its own reservation.

Looking at the flight map, I think I'd do Louisville to Denver on Southwest, then Denver to Honolulu on United.

I checked on their website and valet is $30.00 a night. Just wanted to make sure thought that you can only stay one night but keep your vehicle there for the entire stay? The website wasn't super clear.

Have you tried ParkSleepFly.com? My next trip out of Boston included the hotel and 10 nights of parking for $200 total.

Yes, we only stay one night @TWA (they charge you the full valet cost for the 1st night - I think $40) and then kept our car there for 12 more nights at the daily rate in July. I must have misremembered the daily rate, sorry!! - or they raised it since the first time I used the service in April 2021.
Real offsite parking is a pain near JFK - I suck up the price for the convenience

We live in upstate NY, so we actually flew into JFK the night before on a non stop and stayed at an airport hotel. It was winter and i was not taking the chance with the weather to fly in on the 5am flight. I know Boston now has non stops the same as JFK. I sleep on planes, so the trip home was not bad at all. JFK is very busy, but I thought organized. We did take a shuttle back to the airport so we were not dealing with parking, simple drop off.

We've done SWA on our last 2 trips to Aulani. We like the stop on the West Coast. In 2019, we stopped and stayed at DL for a few nights on the way back. It was a great way to readjust to the time. We hope to go early next summer and plan on flying SWA again. Love the 2 included bags. Makes a big difference...

We have reservations at Aulani :-) in April coming from the East Coast. I am planning to book Southwest when it opens later this month. I'm trying to look at all the many options connecting on the west coast (most likely Nashville) to be able to make a decision and book when it opens. Does anyone have experience with this and suggestions as to the best options each way? It seems I may have to book HNL to west coast and then west coast to BNA. Trying to narrow down the best routes to compare. Thanks for any advice and input.
I am also looking to book flights to HNL April 2-9, 2022. Preferably on Southwest. Right now the price is a little over $800 per ticket from Cleveland. Is that an average price? I’m not sure if I should hold out to see if the price drops or not. Thanks!

Seems pricey to me. Considering it is $196 round trip to fly to HNL from the West Coast on Southwest. Maybe look at flying another airline to get to the West Coast. I am flying Alaska from Montana to Orange County. I got round trips for $140 on Alaska. I am then spending the night (my parents live in Orange County) and then flying from Long Beach to HNL. Total I am paying $532. Granted Cleveland is farther but IMO not almost $300 farther. And I am flying from a small airport which tend to cost more. I would do some shopping.

SWs planes don't have the range to fly from the east coast to Hawaii. Dallas and Vegas are maybe within range. SW can't have connecting flights from the East Coast unless they run red eyes to Hawaii. JMO flying SW from the east coast to Hawaii only makes sense if you want a layover on the west coast, you have a companion pass or a boatload of RR credits to burn.

I've priced SW flying out of Hawaii to various mainland destinations many times. Their non-stop flights to the west coast almost always beat out every other airline. However, once you add a connection, SW usually becomes more expensive. For example, HNL to Seattle with one stop is usually $50-$125 more expensive than the Delta/Hawaiian/Alaska non-stop flight.

OP, American Airlines offers a non-stop between Charlotte and Honolulu that I've seen drop down into the $400 range. We were planning on visiting Gatlinburg but covid happened. When I was pricing out trips, I often found Honolulu to Nashville for under $650 rt with no more than one stop.

I agree with others than Southwest with connections tends to cost more. Flying domestically, I only save money with them flying direct.

I would price out the 3 major airlines to see how much a connecting flight would be and compare that to two separate tickets: Cleveland to west coast, and west coast to HNL.
