Southwest sent four free drink coupons for my son. Unfortunately, my son will be only 17 when we travel. Not sure if I should just put them through the shredder, since the coupons say they are non-transferrable, and I am sure they check IDs when serving alcohol. By the way, my son is not a 16 yo who looks 21, more like 14. It's a really interesting thing to send a child, because when I signed him up for rapid rewards, I put in his date of birth. Surely, they must realize that he is too young for beer, wine or liquor.

If they are like the coupons I received, there is no name on the actual coupons. So you may be able to use them yourself. :thumbsup2

If it were me, I'd keep the coupons and use them for myself or my DH. I'm sure you parents are the ones paying for his airfares so no need to feel you're doing something wrong, IMO.

If questioned, I'd explain. If denied, I'd just say thank you and drink my soda or coffee. :teeth:

My "guess" is that you'd get the drink.

On a lot of flights you can use them to purchase Vitamin Water too :thumbsup2

There is a name printed on the ticket, but it is a first initial and last name, and both my husband and son have the same first initial. So, I'll keep them for our trip.

When I've used drink coupons, the flight attendants have never even glanced at the name on it (I've never even noticed if there was a name on them) and they certainly have not asked me for my name to verify the right person is using them.

I read a number of travel boards and this is the first time I've ever seen someone complaining about receiving free drink coupons!

You can use them for things other than alcohol, too :) I vaguely remember there being Vitamin Water and maybe something else that cost $$.

I wasn't complaining. I just thought it a bit odd to send a coupon for free alcoholic beverages to a minor. Perhaps You thought it was complaining, but, that reflects more on You than me. Obviously, Your role in the universe wouldn't be in customer service or dealing with people and their problems/concerns.

My two year old got an add to sign up for Southwest's credit card. Clearly the marketing department doesn't tie into the birthdate's in people's profiles.

Enjoy your free drink!

Other people have totally used my coupons. I have also used expired ones. They don't seem to care. They do not check ID's if you look over 21.

That being said they are also good for the Monster/VitaWater drinks. No age limit on those.

I see people selling them on ebay all the time with names on them. I don't think it matters what the name says.

I get them all the time and other people give them too me if they know we are travelling. No one checks the name.

I usually get wine, travel with my children and sit in the back of the plane. Many times they won't even take my coupons and tell me to keep them. I am not the type of person that normally gets "free" drinks out and about, so this cracks me up to no end. I think they take one look at my kids and feel sorry for me :rotfl2: Awesome kids, but they are a handful!

I give my drink coupons to my DH. They would expire before I used them up. DH travels a lot for work so he has more opportunities to use them. We have different last names. No flight attendant has ever denied him the use of my coupons.

I've also seen posts on other forums where people give away Southwest drink coupons they cannot use and again, I've never seen any posts about people being denied the use of coupons with someone else's name on them.

We have had FA's refuse to take them, too, and give us our drinks for free. Maybe it DOES have something to do with pity b/c we are traveling with kids :rotfl:

:sad2::sad2:

Seriously?

Thanks for the info on the Vitamin Water. We got our 4 drink coupons and was going to just give them away. Now, we will use them for the Vitamin Water.

Just an FYI to everyone Southwest has discontinued Vitamin Water as of September 30, 2014. The only "Premium" drinks available are alcoholic.

Good to know! I went online to look at their inflight menu and did not notice them on there...

Oh well!
