southwest seating questions?

I haven't yet flown southwest but likely will in October. I usually check out seatguru for configuration and best seating but I noticed they don't have southwest fleet.

Is there a website or a place on southwest I can see the likely setup of the aircraft? I do plan to print out our boarding passes asap in addition to getting to the gate early. I travel alone with my dd's who are young but not young enough to preboard and I would like to have an idea of where to head when we board.

TIA

SW has open seating which means you just sit wherever you want to. all their planes have a central aisle with 3 seats on each side.

I think she understands SW's seating policy, but she's wondering which seats would be best for her to try to get once she boards the plane. I wish I knew because I'll be flying with SW in 11 days. Maybe someone will answer your question soon.

It's pretty much whatever you prefer assuming the seats are open when you board. You won't be able to sit in the exit row -- bulkhead is nice for some, but I find with a child of my own that I don't like not having access to my carry-on bag. I find sitting ahead of the wings is a bit smoother and a little more quiet. When I'm flying without my son, I like to sit up front so I can get off the plane more quickly, but with kids, we usually just sit tight and let the people in a hurry deplane first.

Some SWA planes might still have at least one row of reverse seating -- so there's a row of seats that face the row behind them, like on a train. They have been phasing these out and could be done with that project, but you might encounter that type of seating. Otherwise, it's typical 3 seats-aisle-3 seats configuration on Boeing 737 jets with about 25 rows of seating, give or take a row.

Southwest flies several models of all-economy Boeing 737 aircraft. SeatGuru.com doesn't have Southwest because there are no advance seat assignments.

Here's a seat map for a Delta Shuttle all-economy Boeing 737:

Southwest's seating -- 3 seats on either side of a central aisle -- is the same basic idea as Delta Shuttle, although the actual configuration, such as seat numbers and galley configuration, will be somewhat different on Southwest. Also, the seat pitch (distance between rows of seats), although decent on Southwest is not quite as spacious as on the Delta Shuttle.

I flew SW a few weeks ago with my dd, 11. We had section A boarding passes and were about 8 people back in the A line. But, by the time all the 'preboarders' boarded we were two rows behind the wing. Yes, there were some further front seats open but not two seats with one being a window for dd. I would just head to behind the wing area.

Thanks - I should have worded my question better as I do understand the seating arrangment - ie "cattle call". I was just wondering if they sat 3/3, 2/3 and I had read about some rear facings seats that would not work for my dd's who are both prone to airsickness.

I just like to be prepared as I head on board with my girls.

Thanks I will check seatguru for the similar delta aircraft!

Glad to hear they don't assign seats, sounds good to me. ;)

i believe it is 5 and under, and they did pre board leaving Orlando for our flight- I have read on here sometimes they do not.
