Okay...I just booked a southwest flight (for one person). The rate just went up yesterday so I wanted to get it before it went up again. My return date is up in the air and more flexible so I didn't book it yet. I plan to keep checking the flight and hope to rebook it and get a credit, that I can hopefully use when I figure out my return from MCO.

My question is - what is the best way to rebook it? Do I completely cancel the flight and immediately rebook? Is there a way to modify it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It has been a while since I flew SW.

No, don't cancel it - on the right side of the home page there's a link that says "change flight." Just follow the steps there and you'll be able to rebook without canceling the existing reservation. (This is especially important if you book EBCI - by not canceling, you are ensuring the EBCI you already paid for stays with your ticket. If you cancel, the EBCI cancels, too, and it's non-refundable.)

Is EBCI Early Bird Check In? I didn't book that, should I have? I am assuming that if I am changing my reservation and not cancelling it there is no chance that I will lose my flight totally when trying to get a better deal? Also, does this type of rebooking work with DING fares?

Thanks.

No. If you find a DING fare, you would need to cancel your existing reservations, take the credit and use it towards the DING fare. Otherwise, just as stated, you just change your reservation. Your credit will be tied to your reservation number and when you book your return fare, you can use the credit to help pay for it.
