Southwest Questions

In the past we have always flown Delta or American. The fares for those are decent but there do not appear to be any non-stop flights from Kansas City anymore since they discontinued Delta Express. With an 18 month old I think the non-stop would be worth even paying a little extra for. It seems that Southwest has some good non-stop flight times for us so I thought I might check them out.

The promotional fares look pretty good (actually quite good) but when I put in our dates (Dec 6 arrival; Dec 13 departure) it looks like the promotional fare is only available on the 6th - it says unavailable for all flights on the 13th. Does this mean that the flight on the 13th is sold out of promotional seats, promotional fare are not available for that date yet, etc?

Also it mentions they have an infant fare but when I do the pricing there is no place for me specify the infant rate. If I do decide to book on-line can I get the infant fare or will that require a phone call? Are the promotional fares only available by purchasing on their site?

Sorry that I have so many questions but I am really unfamiliar with how Southwest works. Thanks!!!! :)

I just looked at the Southwest site and the Promotional fares are sold out. You can pick the fun fare on the return trip for a cost of $232 per ticket.

I am not sure if that is a good fare or not from Kansas City. As for infant fare that is based on a full cost ticket. I booked my 2 children at promotional fares because it was cheaper than the children's fare. You have to call to get the rates they are not on the website.

Can you shift a day? The promotional fare is available on both legs if you fly 12/5 to 12/12.

If you book your SW flight on the internet you get double points toward a free trip. They uses segments not miles. Keep that in mind if you feel you will use SW enough in the future to earn a free flight.

if you're paying $156 per ticket, you're getting the best deal they've had since I started watching fares in April. In fact, ticket prices have come down about $15 since that time. Haven't seen any price reductions for a while though.

If I were you, I'd just change the days and take SW for the trip. The flights from KC fill up several months ahead, so now's the time to purchase. Uuugggghhhh, my credit card is still moaning from the purchase, but we did get the flights we wanted, so I shouldn't complain!
