We just saved $160 for our Christmas trip! We love flying Southwest! We are now thinking about booking our March flights however when I tried to type in our code the system said our code was invalid. Do we have to wait until our flight at Christmas before our code can become valid? Any advice would be appreciated! We have never done this before. Thanks to everyone on the Dis for letting us know that we could call Southwest and change our ticket prices.

No, you shouldn't have to wait until after the flight to use the extra credit. I've re-booked many times, and used the credit immediately, but I've done it myself online. My guess is it has something to do with the fact that you called to do it, but I'm not sure. Perhaps the credit can now only be used if you call to make the reservation and it's no longer available on-line. I'd call Southwest to ask.

Good luck! Southwest is great about issuing credit when the price lowers!

From what I gather you can keep checking the airfares and if they go down I am to call Southwest and they will issue me a credit? That would be nice!

chasbos that's what we did this the other day. We kept checking the Southwest site and saw that the price of our flight went down to $59 one way. I called Southwest and gave them our reservation number and told them I noticed the price of our flight went down and she said yes it did. Then she told me that I would have a credit of $160 that I could use for any other Southwest travel I did over the next year. They were very helpful and it only took about 3 minutes!
From what I gather, Southwest will do this as long as your flight times and days don't change.

That's good to know - I will keep watching.

These boards are great!

If your dates or times have not changed and the airfare goes down, call the customer care number listed on the website. They will refund the difference.

What code are you speaking of? If it a discount code, chances are good it is only good for one set of flights, or, it could be expired.

If the price of the flight(s) goes down, will Southwest actually refund the difference (as in a credit to the credit card you purchased the original tickets with), or will it be done as a Southwest system credit that can be used on a future Southwest flight? Obviously, the first option is preferable, especially to those who may not fly Southwest very often.

Credit for a future trip only, unless you are a senior citizen and then they will refund in full to your credit card. If you get credit, it must be used with 1 yr. of the original purchase date of your original tix.

The customer service person I spoke with told me that I could use the reservation number of my flights at Christmas as a code. The credit is stored on the reservation number. So when I am booking my future travel do I just type in my reservation number into the code area? Thanks!

Hi Skondo10:

If I understand correctly, what you have are "Ticketless Travel Funds". To use these funds, book your flights online as you normally would (do not enter your reservation number in the promotion code box on the first page). When you get to the payment screen you will have an option to use and apply your ticketless travel funds. This is where you enter the reservation confirmation number.

From this thread:
"Credit for a future trip only, unless you are a senior citizen and then they
will refund in full to your credit card. If you get credit, it must be used with 1 yr. of the original purchase date of your original tix."

Fom another thread:
"After seeing that my flight's price dropped, I rebooked with the lower price. then I called Southwest and asked them to credit it back to my CC. After a few minutes of checking into my reservation (I assume to make sure that nothing about the res. had changed except the price), the SWA rep said ok, all done. Three days later, the credit was back on my CC. I never would have know that I could do this if you DISERS hadn't stated it on this board. THANKS!"

So I'm officially confused. Maybe the poster from the other thread was a senior citizen and thus the credit back to the card was made. I've seen other posts, however, about getting the fare difference refunded to the credit card if only the fare (and not flight number) changed. I have a hard time believing that all these posters qualify as senior citizens. Has anyone who is not a senior citizen gotten an immediate credit to their credit card when their fare has decreased between the time of initial purchase and the day of the flight? And how does Southwest know if you are a senior citizen or not, if that is in fact the criteria necessary to get the refund as opposed to a flight credit that can be used on a future Southwest flight? I don't remember giving the ages of those in my party when I booked online.

No, you use the credit as a method of payment. When you get to the purchase screen, select the option of paying for it with credits from previous reservations.

I am not a senior citizen and I did call the customer relations number (it is not toll free) and because the only change was the fare they did a refund to my credit card.
I have also suggested to others, thru IM's that they do the same and they have had their credit cards credited also.

That is not accurate. Call the Customer Relations number.
