I signed up for the southwest credit card if you spend 2000 you earn 50,000 points. Once I pay off the 2000$ how quickly do the 50,000 points usually show up. Hoping to book my flights soon! Thanks!

I just did it too. We need to buy our park tickets so seemed like a good idea.

You don't need to pay it off to get the points. Once you hit the spend, you will see the points in your account a few days after your statement cut.

How do SWA points work. Can they be redeemed for tickets for cardholder only? Or can points be used to book for family members too ?

Playing the same waiting game here! Charged the required amount, now waiting (impatiently) for my statement to close!

Yes, you can others with the points. They don't have to be a family member.

I have a question about this. If I charge the $2000 needed for the points and immediately pay it off, is that ok- and I will get 50,000 points? Then I can charge another $1500 and will earn 1500 more points? Is that how it works? And double for SW so if I book our flights and pay for them ( roughly $1000 one way) I will then have another $2000 points? So I can keep charging/paying/earning? I don't want to carry a balance the interest rate I have is terrible!

Yes, no need to carry a balance. We have had the card a couple years and got the 50,000 points.

Their policy on cancelling/modifying flights is a huge plus. Free bags are also nice.

If you're going to continue charging to the SW Visa, you may want to consider opening the other personal Visa SW has - either Plus or Premier (whichever you don't have). You can get the same 50k signup bonus with $2k spent. Additionally, all of your credit card points would be companion pass eligible, so after completing the minimum spend on both cards, you'd only be 6k points away from the companion pass.

yup..... it's a credit card.... use, pay, rinse, repeat, get points as you go.... it's pretty great:thumbsup2

I don't know what the companion pass is- but thanks- will check it out. My plan for this card was really just to get the points, because like I said the interest rate is very bad. So any way to get more points would be great. I don't love SW. They do not have direct flights for us to Orlando. But free is good!

If you get 110,000 points in a single calendar year, then you get a special status where you can take someone (a "companion") along with you on every flight you take.

So am I understanding this correctly? If I get the regular SW CC with the 50,000 bonus sign-up points (after spending $2,000), those points can only be used for
MY (the cardholders) ticket? I can't apply those points to tickets for the rest of my family?

I've been kicking around the idea of getting one and just starting to look into the details. TIA.

Whoa thats a lot to get the companion pass- but thanks for explaining it.

A swa cc is really simple.... Once you get it, you have to spend the amount stated, once you do that, you get the extra 50k bonus points into your rapid reward acct. (the bonus is on top of the regular 1 point per dollar spent on everyday spending) so after you spend 2,000, you'll have 52,000 points to use,for anyone you like. A nice way to get more points? Shop through the southwest shopping portal - also southwest has a dining program, sign up any and all credit cards you use,and you automatically get extra points in your rapid reward acct. Google for the 2 sites ( there are more 'layers' to earning more points, and perks, but what I've outlined is a basic simple usage)
