Southwest question

If i may piggyback on this thread... I am toying with the idea of getting a SW credit card and I know that BW is one of their hotel partners. My goal is to book only BW properties for my frequent trips to Disneyland. If I get a SW credit card, and pay for my BW rooms with it, do I get both the miles for SW AND points with BW for staying there? I am really new to this.
You would need to book the BW rooms thru the SW portal, but yes, you would get the RR points for the stay at a partner hotel and the CC points as well.

Happy to hear this! Also new to it but want to try for the companion pass. Just got 2nd card and will put required amount on it-using it for meals on our August trip. I guess I need to look at SW website...

Could someone please advise how I can transfer points to my SW card? Trying for companion pass! I can't find it on the website. I have 6000 points from my other credit card and would like to move them over to SW. Thanks this forum has been very helpful!

You can't. You can transfer ultimate rewards points to southwest, into your rapid rewards account- but they don't count toward a cp. if you have 2 swa cc,they both have to be in your name to go into your account when earning bonus toward cp. if you're referring to getting to 110k, I strongly suggest you do a lot for research on the other blogs noted to know what to do.

Thanks- could you point me towards any? I need 3000 more. And can't figure out if its this calendar year only- or by the end of this year?

You need to reach 110,000 points by the end of this calendar year - 12/31/16. The companion pass is good until 12/31/17. What some people try to do is reach it as early in the calendar year as possible so the companion pass is valid earlier in the year that they achieve it and can be used for almost two years if you reach it early enough in the year that you achieve it.

Blogs? there are so many, google your question..... million miles secrets is a fave for beginners, lots of explanations- like I said, you are spinning your wheels unless you know the details and how to get to CP correctly. Find out how to do it before you try to do it.

I haven never had a travel rewards credit card, can you use the points on any flight? are there any restrictions?

Southwest allows you to use your Rapid Rewards points on any flight as long as there is a seat available. Other airlines have restrictions as to the number of award travel seats that they will allow per flight.

I can't wait until the beginning of the year as I opened these cards this year and earned 50,000 on both. Will look into million mile secrets- thank you. SW tell me I am 3,000 points away from CP :)

Then again, go read ASAP. If you already opened them and got 50k each, you need to get that last 3k NOW, before your december statement closes, which will be BEFORE the end of the year.If you're even a dollar short you lose out on the CP. And the CP starts as soon as you hit the 110k points, not the first of the year.
****** FWIW, I urge any who are reading his thread, PLEASE don't ask random questions,if you haven't done some research first elsewhere,or jump in with cc applications without knowing the details of your offers. If things were as simple as a quick question and an answer from a random stranger, well then they'd be a lot easier!:thumbsup2 Simply put (again) there is NO shortcut, you have to 'learn the ropes' to play the game!

Thanks- nowhere did I see that it has to be before my December statement closes!
Looks like some early holiday shopping this year :) :)

Could someone tell me if I book 2 flights now- for the spring- and earn a CP next month, will the points for one flight be refunded? Thank you!

You would cancel one flight and rebook it as a companion. All normal cancellation policies would apply.

We did the credit card/companion pass thing the beginning of 2014. I heard about it here on disboards and found some more advanced instructions on thepointsguy.com. Everything worked as planned and we earned out companion pass. Unfortunately, I got cancer and have spent most of the last 2 years in treatment or being sick. However, we (DD, DH and I) did fly free to New Orleans this spring. In a few weeks, we'll fly from Oregon to San Antonio for a casual visit to MIL's house. And in November, we're zipping down to Hollywood for a few days at Universal Studios. We didn't get the use out of the companion pass that I wanted, but 3 flights for 3, paying only a few bucks out of pocket for fees, was worth the organizing it took to make this deal work. And we still have several thousand points/miles left to use toward airfare to Cancun in February.

Those sound like a good amount of travel in a year. I hope you are on your way to good health.

Can my DH and I each apply for the SW Visa and have our own accounts, but list one another as authorized users?

Yes, you can.

However, for the sake of earning Companion Pass + not having points split between two accounts, it may be a better idea to have one of you apply for both of Southwest's personal Visas (Premier and Plus), earning a 50k sign-up bonus on each.

You can always book your husband'a flights using your points (or vice-versa).

Anyone know if I an use points on SW Vacations? Found a great package deal to Mexico & would love to use my points as we don't have any other upcoming travel plans.
