Southwest Open till March 9

For my whole family (2 Adults 2 children) leaving on Jan 2 - Jan 10 would cost
$1254.40

OMG - Almost worth flying out of YYZ

Yuppers I noticed that as well. I have been hoping that the rate I can get for December 11th coming home will drop. I mean $145.00 is HUGE compared to the $54 I got for the trip south :confused3 Stupid Southwest eh? Just means more daily checking eh?

Looks like we're $351.60 per return fare in February (that's for 2 nonstop flights)- we were hoping we would pay about $250 each. We'll keep checking!
JetBlue still has flights for $236.20 per return fare at the same time - too bad both flights stop in NY or we would have booked.
Any SouthWest frequent flyers think the fares will go down?

Exactly what I wanted to know. The prices were about $79 for the Internet Fares when I started budgeting our trip a couple months ago.
So, given that we want a specific flight (the nonstop am one) and day (Jan 30) to go, although JI'm flexible on when we come back, do we wait?
I won't be flying again in the next year, so that I can't use a credit, other than for the return flight.
Any opinons?

Not a SWA frequent flyer, but I do check the SWA web site at least once per day. It looks like the internet rate has dropped to $59 for a lot of dates up until Nov. 20 BUF-MCO. Hopefully as the dates you are looking for get closer the $145 internet rate will drop down. IMHO, thats the time to book. I would not be surprised if the Dec internet rate went to $59 by the end of Oct. and that the Jan internet rate went to $59 by the end of Nov. Of course, peak travel times will be excluded from the $59. You can tell what is considered peak by going to the southwest web site and looking at their shortcuts calendar. If only very high fares are available for a period of days (ex. right now around Christmas time), that would be considered peak.

Also, check the SWA web site every Tuesday morning. Each week a destination goes on sale and the flights for that city are a great price then. For example, on Tuesday Aug 1, MCO went on sale for $59 for departures until the end of the schd. as THAT time (Dec 10, I believe).

As well, on Tuesday sometimes entire part of the US go on sale (ex. Florida sale). At that time all destinations in Florida go on sale (but not always every date/flight, and high demand flights/dates are excluded). These type of sales are usually set up for set booking windows (ex. a 6 week period).

I like the Tuesday sales because they last a few days, unlike DING which is only for a certain amount of hours. I would prefer to get some nice $59 non-stop flights and then I wouldn't have to be concerned about watching DINGS closely.

I watched BUF-MCO Dec 31, 2005 VERY closely as well as BUF-TPA Dec 28 last year and when Dec/Jan went on sale or DINGed these dates/destinations never dropped in price.

If you can, be flexible with your dates and even with what airports you are willing to fly into/out of.

Again, not a SWA expert, just my thoughts.

Perhaps a SWA frequent flyer would be abe to share their thoughts about SWA sales?

We flew Jet Blue last time we went because Southwest didnt drop the prices when we wanted to book and Jet Blue had a $39 sale. The stop over in NY isnt that Bad. You never leave the Jet Blue terminal. While a non stop would be ideal it wasnt that bad.

Just did a quote from them and for the 4 of us from YYZ to MCO $199 down and $90 return and with taxes ($828 [$207 per person x 4 ] ) it comes to $1984 (OUCH)

Got to love the taxes

Holy Moley!! $39 flight! I spend that in gas in two days driving back and forth to work! I can't even get to Halifax for $39 and that's only an hour and a half away! Oh to live where you have flight options!!!! But even the chance for a cheap flight to Disney wouldn't make me move! As much as I love Disney!

Just checked - costs are $422pp feb11-18 - we needed feb17 return which they don't have. Even compared to Southwest regular prices that is pretty high. Plus we would have to stay an extra night so that would be another added cost.
Thanks for the info - I'll definitely keep checking their prices to see if they come down as well.
