Southwest New Dates?

Does anyone know when Southwest will release fares through the end of April? They only go to 4/12 now & I am looking for dates towards the end of the month.

On Southwests site:

We are currently accepting air reservations through April 12, 2013. On October 22, 2012, we will open our schedule for sale through May 31, 2013. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

Another question: any opinions or experience with when is the best time to purchase tickets to get the best price? Do they normally release sky high prices, and then they tend to drop, or vice- versa? Or is it all one big gamble

I'm on the phone as soon as someone on this board announces they saw it open. But the last two times I used points, so I knew I would get the extras returned if I booked high. We keep getting the credit cards and the free 50,000 points for our flying.

It depends when you are flying and, to a lesser extent, from where you are flying.

We tend to fly at peak times--Spring break, summer, holidays, etc.--and generally the fares that come out on day one are the lowest you will see out of STL. If you are flying at less busy times or where there is more competition (SWA is the only carrier offering non-stop STL-MCO flights), then you may see fare sales come along after the initial release date.
