SouthWest is offering 50K points Credit Card again

If u go on there websight and put in datez and codes then it brings up the costs. Click on the 30 day calendar on the upper right hand side of the dates. Then when the 30 cal. Comes up again on the upper right hand corner of the 30 calendar you can click points or cash. Thats where u click points and the then the calendar changes from cash prices to points. Its easy. Good luck

Which do I do first........apply for the card through Chase, or create an account on Southwest's site? And, do I create an account and then join Rapid Rewards?Want to make sure I do this right!

I would create a Rapid Rewards account first, then you can put your account number on your credit card application.

When do the points go into your account? We received our card on Saturday and I paid on our Disney trip with it ($2,000) on Sunday. I believe it said the due date was the 24th. When should I get the points? I looked today and I don't see them yet. From what I have heard SW is opening July next week.

Thanks

You will not receive the points until after your statement closes. Usually within a couple of days of the closing date. So in your case, I would guess mid-late February.

I have both the personal and business versions of this card and points credit 2-3 days after statement closes. If you access your acccount online you can change your statement closing date, which would allow you to move up when you receive your points (Assuming you've already met the spending requirement).

If I apply for a card and my DH does also in his own name. When we get the points is there a way to put them together or would we have to book with 2 different accounts when we go to book our flight?

Thanks

I may be wrong, but I didn't see a response to this question.

Anyone know the answer?

You can transfer points between RR accounts. It must be done in blocks of 500 with a minimum of 1,000 RR points. It costs $5 per 500 points to make the transfer.

Most people would tell you to use one account to book all of the tickets in one direction and then the other account to book the return flights. Any combination that uses your points to the max would be better than paying to move points around.

Don't forget to look for opportunities for bonus points, like signing up for the Rapid Report newsletter, shopping through their portal or participating in eRewards surveys. Those bonus points add up!

Yep, I booked as much as I could with DH's points (6 of 8 one-way tickets), then booked the other two with my points. Then he only had about 2000 points left, so I did pay to transfer them to my account because we were going to cancel his card and concentrate on earning points on my card.

Except when I told him to start using the SW card for semi fuel, I didn't realize he still had his SW card in his wallet, so he earned another 1200 points on his account. This time I will just leave them there unless I need them.

Last year we each got the 50,000 points and we flew the 4 of us to CA and back for free with points to spare. DH charges LOTS of semi fuel for business, so we had enough to fly to Orlando this summer for free. I figure we should be able to fly somewhere free at least every other year. I have the Budget Board to thank!

When I first posted the question I didn't think about booking one way tickets. After I thought about it that is what we will do. I have already spent the $2,000 on my card. As soon as I get those points and SW opens July we will look to book the way down tickets and then do the return tickets when DH gets his points.

Thanks.

Has anyone ever signed up for card, spent the $2,000 to get the RR points, used the RR points, then returned the items that you bought with the initial $2,000?

I know it's a different card, but with Chase Sapphire Preferred, if DW and I each get our own acct/card, and then add each other as authorized users, would we then qualify for the additional 5,000 RR points?

I'm sure that somewhere out there in the big, bad world there is someone who has attempted this. I do not know what the outcome would be. I do know from personal experience that if you return a purchase after the points have go into your RR, you will be debited an equal amount of points the following billing cycle.

Why transfer? As long as you are booking a flight together you can use either one's RR points. One trip you can use you RR acct and the next trip you can use DH RR acct.

Do the points ever expire? Also does the person with the points have to be on the confirmation?
Points will expire if you don't participate in any point-earning activity during a 24-month period. But a point-earning activity doesn't have to mean flying. If you have a Southwest Visa, then the annual bonus is considered to be a point-earning activity. If you make a purchase through their shopping portal, you've satisfied them for another 2 years.

You can use your points to purchase airfare for anyone. It doesn't have to be for the person who owns the RR account. I've done it plenty of times to treat my extended family to a vacation.

You will get your RR card in the mail but if you want to access it online ahead of time, give Chase a call and ask what the RR number is.

Actually Chase will not be able to give you your RR number. You will have to call SWA for that since its their program. CHase has nothing to do with the RR acct. number.

Chase is putting the points into the RR account. They have to have access to the number in order to be able to do it. They're also the vehicle by which the RR account gets opened if you don't provide them with an existing account number. Yes, they can help you find out your RR account number.

I applied for the card last week and it just arrived. Nowhere in the literature that came with the card nor in the welcome email from SWA does it mention the 50,000 reward points for charging $2K within the 1st three months. Did anyone receive any info with their card mentioning it? Am I missing something? I am reticent to use it without confirmation, as the points offer is the only reason I applied for it. TIA!

Never mind my question. I called Chase and they confirmed the promotional offer … all is right with the World :yay:
