Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

How much do you have to spend on the card to earn 10,000 points? I'm wondering if I can do this in time for our trip.

You can get a marriott rewards card and then buy enough points to transfer 10,000 to Southwest. I think it is 50,000 marriott points and cost is $375, but you get one extra flight too. (for two people with the companion pass!) Way cheaper than spending $10000.

Can you share the reconsideration phone number? I think I need to call them. :)

I got my cards today! Whoo Hoo!

I got my card & I've been using it this week. I keep checking my account online & so far no points are showing up.....How long does it take?

The link posted a couple pages back to the 50,000 pts still works. I just used it yesterday. :)

In case anyone is still on the fence about it.

I got my card! :yay: DH got his letter that he wasn't approved..After looking over our credit history on Experian there were no red flags or errors...so we called & turns out I input his SS# wrong!!!! It just so happened to be the SS# of someone with bad credit! He got approved over the phone & his card is on the way! I'm so excited!!!

How are you planning on using this card? I wanted to use it for everything & keep track, kinda pretend it's a debit card....but now that I have it & I started setting up my accounts to get automatically paid with it. I'm nervous because I still have a few bills that cannot be paid with it like mortgage, utilities & I'm not sure about car payments....I'm just nervous that it might get too confusing & I'm considering only using it for purchases & leave the bills out of it. :confused3

Anyone figure out a way to tackle this & keep it uncomplicated???

my father in law used the link last night too, and it worked! Does anyone know the link for the business application that gives you 50k points?

I'm not planning on using this card at all, once I get my points:)

If you follow the other link, and then scroll to the bottom, there is a link for the business application there. Click on it and it should also be the 50,000 point business application.

I am dying to get my points. I received my cards on the 8th, have used them both and payed them both off. My payment due date is April 14th, so I assume my statement closing date was March 12th or so. When o when will I get those darn points!!!

PS My husband also was approved for both the personal and the business cards so we are talking 200,000 points in our future and two companion passes. Just perfect for our family of 4. Yeah!!

When I called and activated our cards, I asked to have our payment due date moved up "to get it in line with our other credit card due dates" (but actually to end the cycle and get access to our bonus points sooner ;) Our new due date is April 15th, and they told me our cycle end date would be March 18th. So I would check tomorrow. How did you pay them both off without a bill? I don't understand...

Just got my 50,000 points today. Bought an additional 2,000 points for $50 and booked 5 of the 6 legs of our trip using points and the other one using a credit card. My total for three round trip tickets was $233. Not bad considering if I had to just buy them, they would have been $1,092.

I was able to pay mine off without a statement because I have other Chase cards. When I logged into my account, the new SWA card was listed there and I just chose to make a payment and sent the money that way.

I want to use my new card to rack up the points so we can go next year, but I want to make sure I don't over spend. Will I get points if I make payments every week or so as I use it, or do I need to wait to pay until I get my statement?

I'm hoping someone with more SWA experience than me can help answer this question PLEASE! We are hoping to see our 50,000 points in our RR account tomorrow, but I think we will still be about 40 points (yes, seriously, 40 points) short of what we need to buy 3 of our 4 roundtrip tickets for our June trip. I don't really want to buy 2,000 points when we are short so few, and we also need to buy one ticket with cash anyway. So, my question is, how quickly do RR points from purchasing a ticket show up? Is it instantaneous? I was hoping I could buy the cash ticket first, and then the new points from that would be in our account to buy the other 3 with points. That seems too easy, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. What I really don't want is to pay cash for the first ticket and then find out that we still don't have enough points, but now I'm stuck anyway since I have the first ticket.

In a related question, has anyone ever had luck calling and asking them to just give you the extra points when you are so close? I did that once with our Chase Freedom card, so I wondered...

Hey there! All purchases and therefore "new" points show up on the *next* statement, so no - you wouldn't have them immediately. The credit card company typically waits on the payment during that cycle before they reward the person with the points earned. Don't forget though - you get *double* points for using the SWA card to purchase on SWA so that's nice.

I'm pretty sure you have to buy the points in "denominations" they have available but others can chime if they've had a different experience. I don't know about them "giving you" 40 points but surely that amount isn't much if I figure 60 points is about a $1, right?

I hope it works out for you :)

Thanks for the reply! I knew the RR points from using the credit card wouldn't show up until the next statement, but I was thinking I would also get the RR points just from buying the tickets (like I would if I bought them without the SW cc), and I wasn't sure how quickly those show up. I thought maybe it was once the flight is taken, but was hoping I'm wrong and it's immediate.

I thought we spent more than enough to hit the points we needed for the month, but we have a purchase from yesterday that still isn't showing up, and I'm worried it won't now that it's the weekend and our cycle ends tomorrow.

My points from spending for the first month showed up WITH my 50,000. So did my husbands - so I think you will be ok. I checked it for several days and then 50,600 posted all at once.

Okay, one more follow-up question...sorry!!

So this morning I called to check the balance (I thought our cycle end date was yesterday), and it's the first day that it says when our next payment is due. (And luckily those few other purchases did post and we should have enough points!) But our points still aren't showing on the RR site. Before I call SWA and sound like a total psycho, can anyone who's done this recently tell me...do you remember if your points posted this day (the first day your cycle is officially done), or the next day? I'm a little concerned our cc and rr accounts are linked right, since they had to sign us up for one with the card and they didn't have them linked as of last Monday. It's still not showing on the RR site that we even have a credit card, but they said it won't until our first points from it post? So I want to call, because I really want to get these flights booked since they keep going up. But I've already called a few times and I know they will tell me the whole 6-8 week thing...anyone?

I'd give it until tomorrow and then call. I wasn't checking mine daily and didn't focus on which day they posted, but it was quick. I might be the day after. They could post at anytime today. who knows what time they update their system...

Mine posted the day after my cycle closed. Hope that helps! I also got my 50000 plus what I had charged the first month. You can also get 250 points for setting up your e-mail preferences-that posted fairly quickly. I also signed up for e-rewards and got 350 points for that. Those also posted within a week. Hopefully one of those will bump you over that limit!

I didn't check my account the day the cycle ended. I did check it the day after, and the points were there, along with the points for the charges I'd made that first month. :goodvibes

Thank you all for the replies! I just checked, and the points are all there, and we have enough!!!! Woo hoo! I knew if I worried about it enough, it would all work out (I tend to stress about things and then have them be totally fine:rolleyes1). I was really worried, because there is only one flight each way that wasn't over 10,000 points and/or getting in after 11 pm, which is not how I want to travel with 3 young kids! So now my last question (I promise) is this...the RR points are in my husband's name. We can get 3 round-trip tickets with the points, and then we'll pay cash for the last one. Does it matter if his name is on one of the ones with the points? And we can only accrue new points for the one in his name, right? Not for the rest of us, unless we want to have accounts in each person's name? I just want to make sure I do it right. We've never flown SWA before, so I don't know how they work.
