Southwest has open Nov & December

My friend seems to think you should check everyday if not several times per day if you can. That's what she does. I asked her the same question in regards to "if I find a cheaper flight, what do I do". Her suggestion was to call a Southwest rep and tell them what your situation is. I wasn't sure if I should cancel the tix I had then rebook using the credit. The only problem with this is, you take the chance of the cheap seats being gone by the time you cancel, and then you also take the chance that the seats you originally wanted might be gone as well. Sometimes it only takes a matter of seconds for someone to click the "purchase" button before you've selected what you want.

I think what I am going to doing is keep checking, and if I find a lower fare, I'm going to call their customer service line and tell them I want the lower fare. I've heard some people say they've done this and one customer rep says you can't do it, but if you hang up and call again, you get someone else who will do it for you. My friend has been able to get the lower fares before and just ended up with a credit (one year from the date you purchase your original tix) that you can use.

I guess I should just be happy with what I have.......the $277 r/t, but I will definitely keep checking daily. It seems like so many people were able to change their tix prices when the new fares came out last week for August.

Best of luck!

You run the same risk using the agent. Someone can snatch them just as fast.
I have done by myself for years and have never had a problem.
what I do is open a second window, click on the fares I want, go back to the first one, cancel the reservations, back to the second window, apply the credits and ta da done. I type faster than the agents and I have all the info, so, in reality, I am faster, no repeating the info and waiting for the agent to type it in.
Agents cannot do anything with Internet only fares. They cannot even see them a lot of the time. Guess that is why they are called "internet only" fares. :)
The credit is nice, but, you have to complete your travel totally within that year.

SWA usually only changes their fares on Tuesday, but if it makes you feel better check daily. I have been flying with them for years and have only seen their fares change on a day other than Tuesday twice.

OK, right now, SWA's rates out of MCO are the same as other airlines, but the diffference is with others, I don't have to fight for a seat!
Question: If I would book SWA with the refundable anytime rate, could I get an awesome internet rate when and if they do come out and have the difference refunded to me? I've done it before with internet rates booked and then they drop (and was forced to take a SWA credit), but never the refundable anytime for my money back.

If you cancel and rebook the answer is yes. They will refund your money and you can rebook using new money.

While other airlines are similar in price, I will take SWA even with their open seating over the changes in flights, cancellations, etc. Also, the space for your body on SWA is better than most. With Delta I feel like I am in a coffin.
And, I have yet to fight for a seat.

I'm glad SWA finally extended at least a little. We grabbed the Internet One-Way special ($69) PVD to MCO on 12/10. Now we just gotta wait for our return date of 12/19 to open up and hope we have good rates.

It seems like our first Xmas trip is getting a little closer...

Oh sorry, I must have come across literally on my post...lol. I don't actually knock out fight, but I get anxious when I see 100 people before me to board. We have had problems if we arrive about an hour before hand, say two to four of us together, getting C boarding and getting split up. That is what I don't like, I would like to take my time getting to the airport. But I did discover that if you book each ticket individually, you can obtain your boarding pass 24 hours in advance online.
Thanks for the reply on the refundable anytime!

Haven't they fixed the need to book all tickets individually, or is that still an issue? Does anyone know?

It is still not possible to check in online for multi-passenger reservations. They did just recently make it possible to receive boarding passes for each leg of a multi-leg (i.e. connecting) itinerary.

For right now, the best answer seems to be creating as many reservations as there are passengers if you want to utilize online check-in.

Hi all,
As we all know, SW is only listing fares up to Dec. 11th.

Our trip has us flying out Dec. 9th., and returning on the 14th. out of Philly.
Should I go ahead and purchase the flight out at $79, then wait for the return fares to come out and get them, or wait until the 14th. fares are listed, and purchase all at once? There are 4 of us flying, and I'd hate to miss out on the $79 fare...

Thanks,
Mark

I would buy your outgoing flight now, since Southwest Internet Only rates (usually the cheapest) are one way fares, and that way you would be locked in at the cheapest fare.

If the price does go lower, you can always get a credit to use towards your return flight when those times are released.

Gotta love Southwest - they are the easiest airline to deal with!

I've been checking SWA website waiting for them to release dates. Our WDW trip is from Nov. 19-Nov. 27 from San Antonio - MCO. Waiting and checking sometimes inthe afternoon and again after midnight. So after an extremely busy day I see that they have finally opened the days. My heart rejoices until I see that the only fares they have open are the full fund fare which are for $240 each way which would bring my round trip tickets to a delightful $480 plus taxes and fees. What the freak? That's higher than anyone else today.

When is the release of the next rate tier?

In fact, I usually check the SWA site whenever I happen to be online.

This morning (Sat) I was able to snag flight from MHT to MCO for $49 each way, saving $40 on the round trip flight I booked earlier this week. Still couldn't get non-stop, but I haven't given up - I'll keep checking everyday till the day we leave. :teeth:
