We are in the preplanning stages for an Aug 07 trip. Right now we are up in the air between flying and driving although leaning more toward flying.

I was looking at the SW fairs for Aug 06 for the time we want to travel... leaving around 8/22 and returning 9/2. Right now it looks like I would be able to get 99 down but the best coming back is 150. When the fares were released for this time period were cheaper fares available for the Sat/Sun on labor day weekend? Also, after taxes and fees, what does the 99 fare actually come out to be?

If you are still decicing between flying and driving you are going to have to weigh the cost of each. I personally will not drive anymore with the cost of gas. To me it is just not worth it. We are a family of 5 and some how my wife usually gets great airfare.
In May we all flew for $580 from Islip. It would have cost more to drive. In July we got good prices also. It is more than $580, I think around $800. That is still not worth driving to me. We were in Florida last August when Hurricane Katrina hit and had driven. The price of gas when we left was about $1.85 gallon. When we drove home it was $3.40 up to $3.85. Now you are going to be going in August, which is hurricane season. I paid $3.21 a gallon this morning for gas, if it's that high now what if another hurricane hits? What will the price of gas go up to then??? $5 or $6 a gallon??? :confused3 Just something for you to think about while you are deciding.

I don't know the answer to your first question, but as to the price for a $99 fare with taxes and fees, my dates come up at $109.30 form ISP to MCO, and $107.80 from MCO to ISP. I think the difference is due to different airports departure fees. HTH.

I am anxiously awaiting Southwest to start booking December flights. I am so nervous...being that all my plans are made, and I will be making my dinner ressies in a few days, and I don't have our tickets. But...don't you just LOVE MacArthur Airport?? I would NEVER drive to Kennedy or LaGuardia again! Thank God for our little LI airport!

Yes, I do love MacArthur! Add to that the fact that it is about 12 minutes from my house, and put Southwest nonstops to Orlando in the mix, and you can't beat it!

those were almost our exact dates in '05 and we got ding fares for $49 each way... originally booked the $99s and our fares were cut in half (which meant a january trip to use up the credit! LOL!) but it seems ding fares are getting fewer and further between and more restrictive (tues/thurs only and such)... i would count on $217/person round trip (which is what two $99 fares come out to w/taxes and fees) and be pleasantly surprised if it comes in cheaper!
