The Wanna Get Away rate for my preferred time was gone before I could finish the transaction even though I was on when they opened. In the event we decide to change to our preferred flight, what's the process? Will I just end up paying the difference or will I pay the full rate and get a credit for the flights we paid for?

Thanks,

You go in to the change page, and check what flights you want to change. Then it sends you to the current page of flights, you choose. If higher, they will charge you more (the difference between what paid and new), if lower, gives you a SW credit or points back (same the difference). Luckily, done it several times over the years, and always got a credit. This year, I am so glad to have bought want I wanted, as so far none of my 2 trips in the next 6 months are lower than what I paid.

Oh, and hello from PA.

Thanks, I doubt the price will go down, I'll just have to decide whether the extra $$ are worth it. We fly to PHL at 11:55 am, last year we got a 2:15 flight and that gave us a more relaxed morning.

Is the credit immediate or do you have to wait for it to post?
If you paid by credit card, you will not receive a credit to your credit card account; the credit will be saved in your Rapid Rewards account to be used for travel within one year from date of original booking. It only may be used by the named passenger on the reservation, not by the person who paid or anyone else. If you do not use it within that time frame, it will be lost. Beware...if you are applying multiple credits to a new reservation, all credits applied will take on the expiration date of the oldest credit.

If the booking was paid using Rapid Rewards credits, those credits return to your RR account immediately.

For a cancelled Southwest trip made as a points booking, you can request the taxes/fees charged to your credit card be returned (you need to select that option).

Always try to change, not cancel a flight, if you are just modifying the dates, times, etc., as any EarlyBird paid for will be lost, if you cancel. It will be saved, however, if you "change" the flight.
