If Southwest releases our departure date and then our return date at a later time should we go ahead and book departure and return at a later time? We will be using points so we have to use Southwest. We are traveling during the busy season, so I am concerned about not getting a direct flight if I wait.
Travel dates are Dec 29- Jan 8, and yes I know its early to worry about such but I am an planner person & a little obsessive!:yay:

I don't see any issue with it either. We did it this way last year at this time and it wasn't a problem. I do know that sometimes if you buy round trip tickets, the fare can differ but if you're using points then it probably doesn't matter.

We ALWAYS book our segments separately, no matter if the dates are both open or not. I don't know why - ease of change should I need to, maybe?

No issues with doing it that way :)

I am an OCD planner, too. Still planning this upcoming trip, but my brain has also moved on to an August trip, too. That started out in Yellowstone and is now in Tampa?? Wanna bet we squeeze in the mouse, too?
