I will be flying southwest in March for the first time. If I do online check in at that time will I be assigned the A B or C thing and when I get to the airport and get to the gate than what, it sounds like there are A B or C lines when do they start these lines as soon as you get there or when they start boarding? I will be going from DTW to PHX. Thanks

If you want, you can start standing in your assigned line immediately (assuming the stations aren't taken up by a flight leaving before yours from the same gate). I personally would rather sit in a chair until they start boarding.

If you check in close to the 24-hour mark before your flight, you should get an A pass. There is little reason to wait in the A line - just join once most of the A's are on board if you want. If you have B-passes, it's a good idea to wait in line, those if you don't need to sit in a group, middle of the B-line is usually good enough. If you end up with C passes for some reason (and you won't if you log in online 24 hours in advance) get in line as soon as possible.

I like boarding this way.

Almost all the time I have an A boarding pass. I sit in a seat until the A line actually starts to board.

This is my first time flying Southwest. I understand being able to print the boarding pass 24 hours before the flight. My question is: does this boarding pass apply to both parts of my flight from Detroit to Baltimore with a stop in Chicago or do I need another boarding pass for the Chicago to Baltimore part?

Thanks!

I have not flown Southwest yet but normally for connecting flights you would get both boarding passes (you need the second one) at the same time. I suspect that in your case, if you want to get the first boarding pass about 24 hours in advance of that flight, you would have to sign on again 24 hours in advance of the second flight to get its boarding pass.

On Southwest, if you have connecting flights, you can log in 24hours before the first segment and get boarding passes for all segments. (This is one reason why you aren't guaranteed to have an A pass at the 24 hour mark).

Please check the gate board before you get in line... I have seen people lined up in the A slot for an hour only to discover that the flight now boarding is NOT thier flight. SW will run several flights out of a gate and since they move quick there can be a flight departing out of your gate before yours.....

I've got a really stupid question.

Once you're at WDW, how can you do the online check in from the resort? Is that something you can get the front desk to do, or would we need to take a laptop and find a wireless hotspot?

The lobby concierge in every resort can check you in and print boarding passes if you give them your name and reservation number. If you are going to be in the parks at your 24-hour mark, and don't want to wait until you get to a resort, you can have a friend check you in from home, and then print your boarding passes at the airport (your A,B,C status is locked in when you check in, not when you print your passes).

I've seen this several times as well. They will call repeatedly for the flight to Midway (or whatever) and inevitably someone in the line is going to Providence.

I've noticed when we fly from Buffalo people line up really early but our last trip home from MCO the flight was only half full and people only got in the A line about 10 min before boarding. The attendant announced the flight was going to be fairly empty so I people did not feel the need to rush.
