Southwest anniversary sale

For anyone still holding out for a good fare - if you see something reasonable, take it. We booked at $390 RT Chicago-Orlando for 12/20-12/27 the day the fares opened. I didn't like the fare one bit, but knew it could skyrocket given the timeframe.

Since then, I've seen it climb higher and higher. And just now, it's showing $363 for one leg and $474 for the other. Crazy!!!!!

So even if it's not what you want, but it's something you can live with, and especially if you're in a situation like we were (where the alternative was potentially icy driving), I'd take it.

DD is going with friends in September. I got their return flight last month for $118. This morning I got their flight down for $99, so $217 per person round trip. :cool1:

My SIL is going in November. Right now her flights are $231 and $165, so we are going to wait and hope that those drop further. :rolleyes1

I am going in December, and it's looking like a solo trip at the moment. I got my flight down at $118 and my flight home at $99, so $217 round trip. :cool1:

Dates didn't work for me but at least the airfare was a price I could live with.

Glad to hear some people got such great rates :thumbsup2

Is this really the anniversary sale? Thought that wasn't until next week.

It doesn't look like it. I don't see the word "Anniversary" mentioned anywhere in the email or on the website. I'm hoping it isn't. I'd like to get a better price for my SIL.

I broke down and purchased for 10/18 - 10/25, PIT-MCO. 10/18 dropped from $190 to $165, return is still $151. When I was first checking these dates about a month ago, there were no wanna get away for 10/18.

I purchased ours for 9/6 to 9/14 when the window opened anticipating that since our return is on a Sunday, would be excluded from a sale. Very glad I did. I paid $138 each way. We used to get really great deals out of PIT with Southwest prior to the AirTran buyout--not so much now. We live about 20 minutes from Latrobe Airport, but the reviews I have heard about Spirit are not that good and they only have 1 flight in and out and I don't care for the times. With all the fees and such, for my family, it's better to fly out of PIT.

I may have to start considering mid-week travel dates for our next trip. :scratchin

Does anyone have an idea why Baltimore (BWI) to Orlando is never included in any of the sales I have seen on Southwest?

I don't know, but PHL isn't usually either. Its very frustrating since those are the two airports I usually fly. Prices have been pretty high out of both lately.

My dates are still the same price even though they fall within the window. I figured my flight to Orlando would not be included since it's on a Friday but figured I could at least get my return cheaper since that's on a Tues. No luck! Even if I was flying to Orlando on another day I wouldn't have got a discount since I'm flying out of BWI and Orlando to BWI is not discounted so no discount on the home trip either. O'well glad I booked when I did, looks like I did the right thing. I wasn't really worried about getting a credit back since I probably won't fly again in the next year anyway but I was hoping to change my flight to Orlando to a later time and my flight home to a later time. Right now the flight home is up $100 from what I paid Yikes! I still got a half decent deal at $278pp rt. I find it weird that my return flight on a Tues. are higher than my flight out on a Fri.

The same here. SW's sale does not help me. I did find a good deal on air through them, direct flights . The flights were not the most desirable times, but we extended up trip. Also used mycoke rewards & purchased discounted gift certificates that help with the savings.

We usually fly southwest out of bwi, but I wasn't seeing anything good out of bwi, philly, or Pittsburgh for our dates (all are within 3 hours from us). Yesterday I was able to get $99 flights on usair out of Reagan in dc. Mil and fil get first bag free with their frequent flyer program, and they were able to get us free bags with a companion pass. I love flying southwest, but I wasn't going to pass up $99 flights.

i did well for december , saturday travel both ways , decided to check on how many points this would take with the sale , and ended up with two round trip tickets on direct flights (first flight out of PIT, and last flight out of MCO ) and early bird check in total cost $60.00 for both of us . kick in the free dining i AM ONE happy camper :cool1::cool1:

Our flights were $69 each way! Amazing deal, so amazing in fact, we added my SO to the trip and booked him a flight with us :rotfl:

This thread prompted me to check my fares for 4th of July week just to see if they went down -- and they've done nothing but go up since I booked them. Well, I almost fell out of my chair, but they didn't just go down -- they dropped WAY down and I got about 48,000 points back to my account!

Buf to MCO
Was 19,xxx points one way
Now 7,xxx points one way

Just booked our flights for Nov 15-22, out of BWI to orlando for 303.00 per person round trip for 5 people with the early bird boarding. I am pretty happy with that since we got the times we wanted and I don't have to worry about it any longer! Was hoping for flights out of philly but they had nothing in the price range:( Could have saved 25.00 per person if I didn't book early bird but I have a 7 year old and a 11 year old daughter(bad anxiety disorder) who I do g want to sit alone. I am praying the extra $ will be worth it!

I've been watching for a sale, and noticed my preferred flights to MCO in December only dropped $6 each way, from $141 to $135, but that is a reasonable price so I booked them. Was hoping for a little less since we are flying on Thursday and Monday. We fly enough that if I find a future lower price we can always use the credit. Now if I can pin my DD down on when she might be flying back to college across the country, there are some decent rates there too. LOVE SW and the ability to change flights without penalty!
