I will be getting married in June and plan on taking a trip to Disney in September. I currently have credits for southwest that I can use for my September trip but they are under my current maiden name. I would like to change all my info to my married name soon after the wedding but how is that going to work with trying to get on the plane when my ticket is for my maiden name but my ID has my married name?? Thanks!!

You can book a ticket for anyone with your reward points. I just booked a ticket for my grand-daughter using my husband's reward points.
The account may be in your name but when you go to book the trip you enter the name of the passenger, so you can just book the ticket in your married name

are these credits from a prior flight or a rewards type of credit?

Best bet, call SWA and explain the situation and see what they say. Usually the credit has to be for the same person and same name to which it was issued.

I am not sure of FAA security rules or the rules where you live, but here in my state, when we get a new drivers liscence/ID card, the old one is hole punched and given back to us. If this is the same for your state, and within FAA rules, you should be able to check in using your old ID card with old name even if it is expired.....maybe??

I am thinking OP is talking about a credit that can only be used by the person listed on the credit.

Right, but the computer or phone rep does not require photo ID, it is only at the airport that it would make a difference. So use the credit for Jane Doe who is now Jane Smith, book the ticket for Jane Doe and use the old ID to check in at the airport under the name Jane Doe

I would book the ticket under your maiden name with your SWA credits.

If you do have your new license prior to the trip then just bring some extra documentation. Bring your marrage certificate with both names as well as another id if possible with your maiden name (work id etc).

I am not sure but I think Southwest vouchers are transferable. So you could book the fare under another name and still use your credit voucher.

I think this is true but best to call and ask :)

You can use points to book for another passenger on SWA but credits are usually tied to the name of the person on the ticket/credit.

SW changed the policy a couple years ago - when prices go down prior to your flight you can get the difference in a credit - but that credit is only good for the passenger name on that ticket.

If this is the case the op will have to use her credits to book the ticket in her maiden name. Then after she is married contact SWA to change her RR account to her married name and see if that warrents a name chnage on a ticket (rarely if ever will and airline change the name on a ticket).

But there are documents that will get her through security with her married name - some named in my prior post.
