Does anyone know if the SW 50,000 pt. promotion is going on now?

My friend got an e-mail from SW inviting him to apply. His invitation provided him with a code to use.

Is this by invitation only, or can anyone apply? I can't seem to find anything on the website. I'm not interested in a 25,000 pt deal.

I might mention, this would be my second time for applying.

I called yesterday trying to convince them to let me apply, they won't! Ugh! I'm holding out, I think it might come around in the up coming months. GL!

I would say to keep checking your email. I applied once & used the points & cancelled the card & then they sent me an email to apply again for the 50,000 points & I did & they gave me a second card which I will use the points from & cancel before paying the annual fee again.

Have you flown with them lately? I can't stop getting offers in the mail for it. I know they're set up at the airports with the same promotion (two free round trip flights).

If you know you want to fly, book a flight and see if you get sent an mailer to sign up for the card. I don't know if they mail it before or after flying though. But if you got it before, you can book every one else's flight after signing up.

Does that mean that if I go to my local airport and walk in, I can get a 50,000 SW Visa offer? If so, I might just do that . . .

I got this deal a few months ago. There was a sale fare for the route we take in Dec to DLR (Sacramento-Orange County) and I was able to book 6 of us RT with points left over! :cool1: With a sale, those points go a long way!!!

When I flew in April, they were only offering the one round trip with the credit card in the Philadelphia airport.

You just need to be patient and it will be offered again. I took advantage of it back in January. Basically, when new sign ups slow down, they raise the incentive to the 50K miles. Last year think they offered it at 3 separate times.

I would say to call occasionally and ask for it. Kind of like calling the CM's at Disney. It depends on who you speak with. Some will give it to you without even arguing. Others just go with what is on the screen. When I applied, I had the offer for 25K miles. I told them I was considering, but a different card had a better offer. If they would give me the better incentive I would sign up. Gave it to me without a problem. Good luck.

We just flew to Wdw and back. They were set up at mco but only 1 round trip flight. I want to get this for DH as I already have one, but am waiting for 50k points.

I think it will come up again. If it does do some research on applying for both the personal and business card if you qualify. In the past applying for both cards would get you 104,000 points which puts you very close to qualifying for the Southwest Companion pass (need 110,000 points to qualify). This pass allows you to fly with a designated companion at no charge through the current year through the end of the next year. Check out some frequent flyer blogs for details but definitely worth it if you travel Southwest frequently.

Oh! Good info!! Wish I'd known about it when I applied.

Do you know if the points you accrue through the sapphire preferred can be transferred to multiple SW accounts? What I mean is, can I divide up these 40,000 points for myself, husband, kids? Or would I personally (account holder) have 40,000 points?

I don't have a Sapphire preferred account, but you shouldn't need multiple SW Rapid Rewards accounts. I have a Rapid Rewards account in my name and I booked flights on points for me (with a companion pass ticket for DH) and both kids. I've been checking everyday and when the points went down for our return flight I was able to rebook both kids online at the lower points and the difference in points was refunded immediately to my Rapid Rewards account. (I had to call to change my ticket because it wouldn't let me change it online with the companion pass attached.)

Thanks! I'm going to call them today!

:worried: Starting to get worried that the 50,000 won't be happening again!! Anyone have any news??

I am waiting too. Then I started researching and decided it may be better to just get DH his own card under my acct. I discovered that you need to get 110,000 pts annually for a companion pass and I think we can hit that with me using it for household and him using it for work expenses.

I signed up with the 25000 point one because we need flights in January and I didn't want to wait any longer. Does anyone know how long it takes for the 25000 points to show up in your rapid rewards account after you spend the $1000 necessary?

Mine showed up in the next billing cycle after I reached the specified amount.

Disneymagicgirl, did you see this post from Bronwyn on the first page?

You would only need another 6000 points to qualify for the Companion Pass! Wish I'd known about doing it that way when I applied.
