Sorry this is probably a dumb question, but this w/ be our first time flying and we have a 2 yr old. He has a Southwest ticket and I am guessing he will just sit in the regular airline seat, belted in? No type of car seat needed?

It all depends on what you are comfortable with. We brought our car seat for our almost 3 year as it was her first trip. We wished we would not have done it as she would have sat much better in the seat without the car seat.

Some people find their child is more comfortable in the car seat, so they bring it. It is up to you.

You don't *need* a child safety seat, but if you do have one that works for the FAA, it can be nice to have it. Keeps the littles in their seats a bit better. Apart from DS's first flight at a year, we used the carseat until DS was a seasoned traveler, and at 3.5 I gate-checked the carseat instead of bringing it on. He did great, so from now on it's just the lapbelt.

We use CARES harness. DS used it from 19 months old til 4 yrs old. Now my baby will be using it. It's much easier than carrying a car seat & DS never fought being in it.
