South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Momster - I like Paul Newman's Light Balsamic Vinegarette if you're looking for a ready made dressing.....there are others that would work too depending on what you like....I think the guideline when looking at the label is no more than 3g of sugar per serving .....

Good morning everyone! :sunny:

Didn't have a great last week. I thought I did okay but only lost .1 lbs. I increased my exercise and only had a small cheat on Saturday. I had a couple of hot dogs with buns. Boy were they good! Oh well. Back on track this week and I hope I have better results next Monday. :)

Kim, I'm hoping that you will make it to where you want to be. I'm still doing a great job maintaining my losses, so I must be on the right track!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

Hi, everyone! Well, I decided it really was "May Day" and dh and I started SBD yesterday. So far, so good. I'm finding I do have to think about my meals and plan, but this is what my downfall has always been in the past--a *lack* of forethought and just eating whatever is handy. The first two weeks are going to be tough (I *love* bread, pastries, etc) but I know this is a change I have to make.

My dad died at age 48 from his 2nd heart attack and my mom just had quadruple bypass at 65. YIKES. Genetics are stacked against me and while I can't change or escape those factors, I can alter what I eat and how much I exercise. Wish me luck!

Well, I decided to become a complete backsliding doofus for 2005. I've wasted a whole lot of time, left myself feeling exhausted and depressed, and gained back 13 of the pounds I worked so hard to lose last year. :sad2: ENOUGH! I've got to get back to the beach. So many of you have been so successful -- what made it all work for you? Were you able to keep focused on small steps leading to a big change or did you have some external motivator (like an impending wedding or class reunion)? How did you do it?
I'd appreciate any advice...

Lori, I can only speak for my self. It was small steps. I want to lose a dress size and 10 pounds. Once I did that, it was a giant leap. I knew what I wanted to look like and feel like and became totally determined to get there. I had that no matter what it takes attitude. If I can't have it, then so be it. My self image was so much more important to me than saying, what I couldn't do or have. Now, after keeping it off for so long, I don't miss anything and have learned that food is not that important. I hope some of the other's can give you some advice. However, I know that it has to be an internal change within you, or it will always come back.

I hope you make it and find what you are looking for!

Hi Lori
My initial motivator was health .....my doctor told me I should lose weight to try and avoid problems like developing diabetes, which is more likely when you are overweight. He recommended the SBD and I'm very glad he did. So I'm doing it totally for me and a healthier lifestyle. I have short term goals and long term goals. First short term goal was 25 lbs.....I made that and then I said let's go for another 10.....I have 2 lbs to go to make that.....I want to lose a total of about 50........we all have our moments of weakness.....you just have to let it go and get back on the beach as soon as you can.....yesterday I was eating tortilla chips, chinese noodles , chocolates and I ended the day with oreos (I did throw the last 2 away)...... good luck to you and we'll be here for support

I have finished my first week of Phase 1 of SBD. No real complaints. Sometimes I have to think, but hey, that can't hurt!

Good news, down 5 lbs.

Great news - motivates me to keep going!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

P.S. Made 12 dozen truffles last night for Teacher Appreciation Week (didn't want to fuss with going out to buy presents), took 1 bite, didn't like it and threw the rest away!

Momster, congrats on the 5 pounds down. I know that it feels wonderful!!!!!!

Thanks all for the support.

This site really helps me keep going. So many here have had such success.

Now if I could only get my clippie to work.

Oh, well.

I know what you mean disneylover, I always have trouble with mine. Go to the tech board if you continue to have problems.

Hi Lori! :wave2:

What made me start and what keeps me going are a combination of a few things. I'm going to WDW in December and when I was last there I was so out of shape that I was in pain a lot from just walking around! Plus when I tried to buckle the seat belt on the plane it didn't fit. I had to get a seatbelt extender. I want things to be different this time. I have gallstones and because I have a past history of blood clots the surgeon told me I needed to lose weight. I plan to have it done in sometime around September-October. Last, but not least, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. I didn't like the way I looked or felt. It helps to me to focus on small results. I have so much to lose that just the thought of it overwhelms me if that's all I see but when I concentrate on small results it seems so doable!

:sunny:
Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's only been three days, but I feel better already. I do have a first communion party tomorrow and a mother's day brunch on Sunday to get through, but I'm carefully plotting my strategy instead of throwing up my hands and getting myself ready to gorge myself. I think that's a big step for me. I'm going to try and focus on making positive changes -- and feeling better -- in the short term.

Lori
P.S. Momster -- thanks for taking the time to make those teacher treats -- at this hectic time of the year acts of kindness are particularly appreciated. :love1:

Lori,

I spent 3 years in college as an education major before switching to business/marketing. My best friend and her husband are both teachers. I truly understand what these people are doing for not only our children, but moreover, our society. I also try to find a connection with my children's teachers. It makes communication much easier.

I try to remember the teachers during the holidays, teacher apprec. day, end of the year, etc. I normally do gift certificates for the holidays and end of the year, but wanted to do something a little different for teacher apprec. day and thought the truffles would be a nice idea.

DS said his teacher really liked them. I hope the Kindergarten teachers enjoyed them as much.

Hi All

Everything is going OK here. I was down this week even though I'm up a little bit today. Looking back over the past 4 or 5 weeks I see I'm average about 1/2 to 3/4 a lb a week with some up's and down's getting there.

Lori - I think I had several motivators that got me started. The first was seeing my brother be sucessful on this plan. He started about a month and a half before I did and has done very well. We have both lost over 100 lbs total a piece. Second, the fact I was getting too big to ride most roller coasters. Over about a three or four year period I had gotten to the point where the restraints wouldn't close on the marjority of modern roller coasters. When my favorite roller coaster almost made it to the list I knew there needed to be a change. As far as continuing motivation at least initially, the rapid weight loss was a big motivator. It's slowed down a lot since then so I've needed to find other motivators. Another motivator I've found for me is looking at all of the positive changes eating healthy and losing has done for me. When I first started, I could barely climb a set of stairs without getting winded. Today, I can jog up the flight, walk 5 miles, try to play basketball (still can't shoot), play paintball and a whole host of other activities. My blood pressure is also down to normal from being borderline high. Now that being said, I still have troubles from time to time staying motivated. This slow down in weight loss has definately effected my motivation. For most of my time dieting I've been losing between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 lbs a week. Fairly consistantly. I'm not giving up though. As the old saying goes, it took at long time to put on the weight, It's going to take a long time to take it off again. But I will take it off and you will to.

Congratulations on such impressive results! So far, so good for me. I successfully navigated the party and the brunch -- probably a little too high in the fat column, but no carbs (not even the cake). I'm getting ready to cook dinner for my sister-in-law and am deciding between two phase one recipes that I've made before. I won't weigh myself until my TOPs meeting on Tuesday, but I feel so much better already. The next step is all about the exercise. The gorgeous weather has finally discovered Chicagoland and my pedometer is itching for a workout. I was reading one of the other threads -- the one about walking to Disney -- and I'm wondering how long it would take me to walk the 1188.15 miles to the Beach Club.

Lori, adding exercise would be a wonderful addition to SBD. I don't think that I would have lost all of my weight so quickly without exercise. Now I'm toned and trimmed and feel better than I ever have.
