South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Leanne,

I lose very very slowly. I don't remember what happened the first week or two (maybe I will go back and see in my journal) but it is now week 7 and I am down 15 pounds. I am short so 15 pounds is a noticeable difference. Hang in there, find foods you like and you will lose. Good luck.:D

P.S. Although I am on week 7 I cheated BIG time a few weeks back for alot of the week. I wouldn't recommend it but I had alot going on.......the week I went back on phase 1.5 as I like to call it I lost big!

Melissa- Welcome. It is a great diet to be on and as you can see we are all seeing some results. Come back anytime.:wave2:

Hey there - I'm going to move to the Beach from Atkins while on vacation next week and then do Phase 1 when I get back. On Atkins I've lost 8 lbs in 8 weeks (I only have 11 till goal) and I've been very good. My only cheat has been s/f chocolate during my TOM and I've been working out. Seems like I should have done better than that. Anyway, I think SBD is a better match for me. I miss fruit like crazy! Very happy to be joining you guys!

Is this a normal pattern? The first two weeks were great - 10 lbs gone on phase 1 (I have 70 to lose). There was a family dinner for Mother's Day at a Japanese restaurant. I had the Miso Soup, salad, and sushi (well, just the raw fish - I gave the rice to my daughter). My weight ballooned up 5 lbs:earseek: the next day. I blamed it on sodium is soya sauce and went back to a third week of week 1. However, I'm still UP two lbs without any cheating. My loss to date is 8 lbs.

I'm afraid to switch to Phase 2 - more carbs could equal even more pounds!

Please let me know what you think. Thanks so much for the great support on this site.

Arlene

DVCTiff- Welcome. We have had so many new members here and it's great. SBD is a great plan to be on.

Arlene, are you sure you haven't been eating anything with any hidden carbs or sugar? Sometimes we think that we are eating good and then something sneaks in. Is it TOM or are you retaining water? There are so many reason that our weight goes up and down. It happens to me all the time. I don't get discouraged though. I just continue on. You can stay on phase one for a little while longer, it won't hurt, just pay careful attention to what you're eating.

I'm afraid to switch to Phase 2 - more carbs could equal even more pounds!
I am in the same situation. First 2 weeks of Phase I, I lost 10 lbs. I am about 1.5 weeks into Phase II. Have you measured yourself? I haven't measured in about 10 days. Since moving to Phase II I have only lost 2-3 lbs. I have noticed it fluctuates up & down. I don't weigh every day - maybe 2x per week. It seems that it all drops at once instead of gradually. I am also doing strength training - I may be gaining muscle.
Went out to dinner Sat night for Mother's Day with DH & DSs. Sun went to grandmothers & just ignored my diet completely - Bojangles (skin in tact), biscuit & ice cream cake. I was the one who brought the ice cream cake - & it was good. Everyone enjoyed it including me. I won't beat myself up over one day.

Stick with it and try not to get discouraged.

About Phase 2 (from southbeachdiet.com):

How you'll change: After two weeks, you will be lighter than you are today. Right away you'll notice the difference in your clothes. It will be easier to zip your jeans than it's been for some time. That blazer will close without a bulge.

But this will be just the noticeable difference. What you won't be able to see during those two weeks is how you'll have changed internally. You will have corrected the way your body reacts to the very foods that made you overweight.

There's a switch inside you that had been turned on. Now, simply by modifying your diet, you'll have turned it off. The physical cravings that ruled your eating habits will be gone, and they'll stay away for as long as you stick with the program. The weight loss doesn't happen because you're trying to eat less. It will happen because you'll be eating fewer of the foods that created those old bad urges—fewer of the foods that caused your body to store excessive fat.

What you'll eat now: As a result of that change, you will continue losing weight after the 14-day period ends; even though you will have started adding some of those banished foods back into your life. You'll still be on a diet, but if it's bread you love, you'll have bread. If it's pasta, you'll reintroduce that. Rice or cereal, too. Potatoes. Fruit will definitely be back. Chocolate? If it makes you feel good, sure.

You will have to pick and choose which of these indulgences you permit yourself. You won't be able to have all of them all the time. You'll learn to enjoy them a little differently than before—maybe a little less enthusiastically. But you will enjoy them again soon.

You'll remain in Phase 2 and continue losing weight until you reach your goal. How long it takes depends on how much you need to lose. Once you hit your target, you'll switch to an even more liberal version of the program, which will help you to maintain your ideal weight.

Hi fellow South Beachers!

I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a few days. I'm in full tilt trip planning mode! It just snuck up on me. One day we had 60 days until our trip and then all of a sudden we've got less than a month.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to all the new Beach Buddies out there. This is a great program and this is a thread great for encouragement and support. If your weight loss has slowed down, after Phase 1, please don't get discouraged. I lost 14 pounds during the Phase 1 period, and it slowed considerably when I switched to Phase 2. I lose anywhere from 1/2 pound to 3-1/3 pounds per week. I'd say the average is around 1.5 to 2 pounds. It does add up though because I'm almost at the 60 pound lost mark! Drink plenty of water, exercise and stay OP and it will happen for you!

Jerry - Thanks for the encouragement! It doesn't feel like this weight is coming off quickly to me. I am a bit impatient though. I hope to be at least at the 60 pound mark before my trip (I'm trying to be realistic which would be about a pound per week). I want to be able to fit comfortably in my airplane seat and not have to worry about a seatbelt extender like last year. How embarrasing! I see you are doing quite well. Keep up the great work.

I hope everyone has a Terrific Thursday afternoon on the Beach! :)

ZerasPride- I know what you mean about the trip sneaking up on ya. I did the same thing. All of a sudden I'm down in the 20's. I've been shopping for the last 2 days trying to get everything that needs to be gotten and still missing some things.

I have the same problem losing the weight. I've been holding steady all week, but I have been training like crazy. Getting smaller though because today I brought a pair of M shorts and all of my shirts are L. I was so happy. I look at all my inches lost and I am so impressed. So while the scale does matter, going shopping and getting what I want to wear is also so much fun.

Sheree - congratulations on earning your Masters, celebrating your 10th anniversary (DH and I just celebrated ours a few months ago) and on the inches lost!

I see we'll be at Disney at the same time. I hope you have a great trip!!!!! :)

Just finished Phase I and am 6 lbs lighter, My DH lost 13. Enjoying a high fiber wheat bagel (1/2) and some fruit for breakfast. Can't say I miss all those eggs. Looking forward to see what Phase II will bring.

Hi - I'm into week two of Phase 1 of the SBD. :wave2:
I lost five pounds already but for the past couple of days I have stalled. (I know, I need to stay off the scale).

I have also been wondering if this means that I might need to stay in Phase 1 a little longer. I know the book says that is an option. But, I'd really like to move onto Phase 2 and get more of a variety in my menu plans.

Thanks for allowing me to share in the support!

leanne2255- congrats on the weight loss. Don't you hate it that men lose more than us women  My husband dropped 15 after the first 2 weeks and I was at 9. Boy was I angry. But, I'll get over it. Here is a cheer for you :cheer2: :cheer2:

Cinderellafifi- congrats on your weight loss too. As you can see, we all aren't dropping 15-20 pounds after the first two weeks. I don't know why. If you want to stay on for a little while longer, go ahead. I did. I wasn't pleased either with my weight loss. I wanted more, more more gone. So here is a cheer for you too, and good luck. :cheer2: :cheer2:

ZerasPride, thanks. It has been a long haul. I am fininshing my last class right now. I am so proud of myself. I hope your trip planning is going well. I'm thinking of adding some more PS to my schedule. I'm trying to stay on the plan as much as possible while we are gone. Dh wants to let it go all together while we are there. He's like we only go to Disney once or twice a year, plus look at what we're celebrating. I'm not sure I have the heart to just let it go for 10 days. Although I think those rice krispy treats from the main street bakery will be calling my name. Sheree, Sheree, Sheree..... can't you hear them :teeth: Just kidding. I hope you enjoy your trip. Where r u staying? We are going to try to get in a day of Sea World. I used to work in the one in San Antonio when I was in high school and everyone said the one in Florida was the best, so we shall see. Well I've gabbed long enough. :wave2:

Thanks, Sheree', for the kind reply. My last day of week two is Wednesday and I am going to TRY to stay off the scale until then. I will let weigh-in determine if I move on the Phase 2 or not, I think.

Looks like you have a lot to be celebrating on your trip! Congrats on everything! :earsboy:

Cinderellafifi- It's hard to stay off that scale. In the beginning, I was on the scale sometimes twice a day. Shameful isn't it :o ::yes:: I have learned that the scale should not be the only indicator to weight loss. Are your clothes fitting better, how does your body feel, are you still as hungry? I use all of that to see how my weight loss efforts are going. If I didn't that dang scale would just be my undoing

O.k all. I am weighing in. I am down a pound today!! How can I possibly be happy with a pound, because I should be having water weight gain about now and instead I'm dropping it. YEAH!!!! I hope everyone else is doing great on their weight loss efforts

Cinderellafifi - thanks. How are things going with you? How many days left do you have to be in Phase 1? I don't recall when your weigh-in date is, but good luck.

Hi Beachers!

It's nice to see our thread with so much activity. Today is weigh in day for me and I'm down 1.5 pounds which brings my total to 58.5 pounds! Woohoo!!! I'm so close to 60, I can almost taste it. I wanted to be down 60 pounds by the time I leave for Disney and it looks like I'll make it.

leanne2255 - congratulations to you and your DH on your losses during Phase 1! You must feel great. You'll love Phase 2. Keep up the great work.

Cinderellafifi - congratulations on your loss as well! I have a nasty habit of getting on the scale too much. I only count my once a week weigh in and can't believe how my weight can fluxuate from day to day. DH and I did a sort of Phase 1.5 for a few weeks instead of entering a full Phase 2 where we just added back the good carbs very gradually. Now we enjoy a variety of foods like fruit, whole wheat breads and pasta, all without it stalling our weight loss. I know you'll do well on Phase 2 whenever you decide to go for it!

Sheree' - you are doing an awesome job girlie! I'm so proud of you. My sister and I will be staying at the Grand Floridian. We have some DVC points in reservation status that we have to use or lose so I thought why not stay at the flagship hotel. DH and I stayed there a few years ago and loved it. My 12 year old sister may not appreciate it but that's okay. We'll have a great time anyway. I can understand how your DH may feel about celebrating his loss with food. I think I'll celebrate mine by fastening my seatbealt around me (without an extender, thank you very much) and doing a little wiggle and woohoo dance in my airplane seat! That's celebration enough for me. Not to mention, I've been putting together a list of places that serve sugar free treats and will definitely be visiting those places. I really want to come back from vacation and be able to turn my cheat free bear numbers over. I'm getting close to completing my second cheat free challenge and don't want to mess it up. Plus I figure I own DVC and will be going to Disney for the next 30+ years. When I get to goal, I'll have lots of time to enjoy all the treats and other stuff I might want when I'm in maintenance. Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic trip. You deserve it!!!!!

ZerasPride, my goal may not be the same as yours, but I know what it feels like to take what you have been doing seriously. DH is not taking things to seriously. As is evidenced by the way he eats :o . I know he wants me to celebrate, but I feel like I've come such a long way ya know. I don't want to mess up now. I've been doing the same thing as you and checking out various places with food that I can eat and not feel guilty while doing it. I hope your vacation is terrific. Be safe!!
