South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Melissa - I know everyone is different, but I can cheat on occasion with no great ill effects. If I'm at a birthday party, I'll have a small piece of cake if I want it, for example. But I think the key is that you just need to know what your triggers are. If having 2 cookies leaves you wanting to eat a whole bunch more of them it makes it tough. For me, my triggers are more salt than sweet....that's why I can have some sweet treats occasionally without doing me in. But if I were to open a box of snack crackers and attempt to eat just a few the box may be gone before I know it !

I've been on South Beach for a week now, but haven't posted in case I bomb out, but I can see myself sticking with it. You all are very inspirational! The thing I'm having the most problem with is breakfast, though -- I don't really like eggs. Any ideas, or ways I can trick myself into thinking I'm not eating eggs everyday for breakfast?

Kathmzh, you can have anything legal. Your breakfast doesn't have to be the traditional breakfast. Grab a chicken breast, make an omlet, have some bacon with veggies or something. Don't limit yourself to "what breakfast should be"

Melissa, hang in there. I know what you mean about that time. Mine too right now. I just try to eat those legal treats. Sweetened cream cheese is my fav!!!!!!!!!!! Don't beat yourself up, you might not notice a gain or any ill effects at all.

:wave2: Hi,

I made it through another day. Today was a little tougher, I had a headache throughout the day. However I have sinus problems so I'm not sure it the headache was because of that or the diet. I also had become addicted to having a supersized ice tea every morning. I decided to cut them so the caffeine withdrawal might also be kicking in.

Have a good evening everyone.

Wow! There are so many newbies posting. Welcome!! :wave2:

I'm still hanging in there...don't seem to be losing any weight, but I'll live. I'm working out over an hour a day so that's good. My upper body is starting to take shape, but my lower half needs tons of work.

Easter is going to be a challenge for me because my mother-in-law is a wonderful cook. I'm going to eat what I want, but in small portions. Good luck everyone!!

Good morning all! :sunny:

Made it thru day 2 but I sure was a lot more hungry than day 1!:sad2: Had a wonderful dinner last night. We made the chicken breasts with the spinach souffle in the middle. I really enjoyed it!:cloud9: So far today I'm doing well. My hunger pains seem to be under control.:flower: Now I have to work on going to the gym.

Have a great day! :goodvibes

Sheila hang in there, it is slow going sometimes, but it is so worth it. Enjoy Easter dinner. I'm making turkey and all the fixings. However, I am making them as SBD friendly as possible!!!!

Wow Day 3 and I feel really good a little crabby but thats normal  . Does anyone know if Campbells tomato soup is allowed in phase 1? In the book it says that tomatos are ok but I'm unsure about the soup.
Thanks for the help.

Hi guys,

Just checking in really quick. Things are going okay with me. I've been having a bad day (mentally) but I'm doing my best to pull myself out of it. I know everyday can't be a stellar one on this journey. I am about 6 weeks into the Oprah boot camp challenge and plan on adding back a little whole grain with dinner tonight.

I'll try to check back tomorrow and see how everyone is doing. I just wanted you all to know I'm alive and kicking! :)

Sheree', thanks! Your Easter dinner sounds wonderful. I love turkey!

Lisa, hang in there, girl. We're all here for you. You done so well...just keep remembering that.

Nelle, not sure about the Campbell's Tomato Soup. Try reading the ingredients to see what's in it. You know what to stay away from. Good luck!! Oh, yes, I was very crabby the first couple of days on Phase 1. It gets easier!

Sheree', thanks! Your Easter dinner sounds wonderful. I love turkey! BTW, are you doing Phase 3 for maintenance? I was hoping that when I get this weight off that as long as I exercise, I can pretty much eat what I want in moderation. Are you having a hard time keeping your weight off? TIA!

Ok, it appears I survived the cookies with no ill effects. No gain, but no loss either. I didn't expect one. The last 10 lbs is sooooooooo frustrating. So close, yet so far. I find myself thinking about it too much and obsessing. We have been in such a pressure cooker of stress lately, and that isn't helping my mindset. I need to remotivate myself. I think I am going to up my excercise and do it in the morning and at night. That might help me sleep better. I am dealing with insomnia right now. I think its the stress. Anyway, enough of my boo hooing. Today I have been very good. No cheating. So far, so good.

Sheila, no I'm not doing Phase 3 for maintaing the loss. It's kinda a cross between all three. If I want something, I don't deny myself anything. However the problem has become that I don't miss anything!!!!! The tase of things is not the same anymore. For instance real ice cream and cake is entirely to sweet for me now and has a funny taste. I do eat low carb wheat breads and tortillas and such, and like for easter will be making cornbread dressing, just a lighter version of it. I still have kept away from potatoes and such. I will have pasta on occassion. I find that I feel better when I leave out the extra carby stuff. I exercise like a mad woman!!! I guess I could eat whatever, I've just chosen not to. However, that the great thing about this plan, it's adaptable to you.

Sheree, you are the incredible shrinking woman. I hope I can get to goal. I swear I keep getting within 10 and losing it. So I have decided my goal is now 15. That way, I can get off 5 of the "original" ten without a problem. I have also decided to stay off the scale until my kids go back to school. That will be April 3. I am a scale a holic, so this will not be easy. But I am hoping it will give me the incentive I need to stay OP. I am soooo close. I don't want to give up now.
Have a great day on the Beach everyone!!!

Melissa, I know that feeling. That's why I decided to keep losing a little more weight. Just to have that cushion. My goal was 130, but I said, let's go a little further for just in case. I'm shooting for 120, but at 122, if it doesn't happen, I feel like it's a good place to stop.

Sheree', how tall are you and what exercises are you doing? Also, how long did it take you to get to goal and how much weight did you lose? I know I'm being nosy, but I'm starting to get discouraged again and I'm inspired by you. Thanks!!

Sheila, that's o.k. I'm tiny. I'm only 4'11. I started doing the firm. Low weights at first and even though they don't advise it, I was doing alot of cardio + sculpt and sculpting workouts more than cardio. I started dropping inches like crazy. I'm now doing the firm, Cathe, and Taebo. I still do more weight training than cardio and I'm not bulky at all.

I started at the end of Jan. last year. I was at goal (my original) one by October. I was shooting for my 30th birthday, but missed it by a month. I went from 183 to 130. Since October though, I've been trying to get to 120, so I guess my body is comfortable somehow right where it is as it doesn't want to drop the weight. I must admit that I've been rather strict. I didn't do many carbs at all good or otherwise. I loved mission low carb tortillas, la tortilla factory and I did find a great low carb wheat bread. I would eat sweets (low carb on occasion) I just didn't want to get into the sugar thing. So I made sure my sweets were sweetened with Splenda and had a low carb count. I know this isn't a carb diet per se, but it made me feel better and the weight dropped off. This isn't to say I haven't cheated. I've gone to Olive Garden and Spaghetti Warehouse. I would still enjoy my pasta. I love ALFREDO!!! However, this was once maybe every 2 to 3 months!!!! Even now, I haven't converted back, I just eat much more legal stuff. I love nuts, whipped cream making enchalidias, tacos and things like that. I also eat salads like crazy!!!!

I hope that any of the information I've given you helps. If you want to know more, ask away. I really believe that the exercise helped put me over the top though. They say you lose lots of inches when you weight train. In high school I was 130 and a size 10. I'm 122 now and a size 4 or a 2 or a 0 depending on the designer. When I hit the 130 mark, I was a 4. Don't get discouraged, it just depends on how you work it!

Sheree', thanks so much for sharing with me. You've really helped. I think I need to cut back on the carbs. I've been eating at least 2-3 a day. Last year, when I was working out like crazy and only eating one carb a day, I was losing. I guess I'm going to have to go back to that. I just hate to because as soon as I add back the carbs, the weight will come back. It is a vicious cycle. BTW, you are a tiny girl! I bet you're adorable. My cousin is little like you and so cute. I've always wanted to be little, but was cursed with a medium/large frame. Again, thanks so much!

No problem Sheila. We are all in this together!!! I realized that I wasn't a person who could add in a lot of carbs and keep the weight off. Kinda sucks huh!!! But once I realized that, it was easier. It's just as if you were on weight watchers. You go down in points as you lose weight, then when you do, they say eat. Then what happens is your weight goes back up!! I had to not look at it in the short term, but realized there were some changes I had to make permanetly.

You are not cursed. It's hard for me because I can't carry a lot of weight and look good. I have to be extremely careful. I do hid it well though. Peeple who see me now are amazed at the way I look which is closely followed by you weren't fat before. I sure felt it though. I hide it well, but now, it's like a total transformation. Missing some carbs is worth it to look and feel good

Sheree', I hear ya! I was just thinking today that can I live without eating the good carbs to get thin and stay that way? Yes, I can! Thanks for the "re-charge." I needed it!
