South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Don't worry, Mary. We all have our things we can't seem to resist. For me its popcorn at the movies. So we went to see The Incredibles last night (which was AWESOME) and of course, I ate popcorn. But the scale was the same- I did well otherwise. Just keep at it. A super flat tummy is in our futures if we just keep chugging along.
Have a great day!

I'm back. Actually, I've been back from WDW about 2 weeks now, but just getting around to checking in.

I ate whatever I wanted while on vacation, but walked a LOT. No weight gain when I returned.

I have not been OP as much as I would like to, the past few weeks, but I'm OK with that, I feel that this is a way of eating that I can live with for the long term.

Weighed this morning and have lost 1 lb. This is the lowest that I have weighed since my baby was born. My baby turned 18 last month! ;) I told my DH that I have finally lost the baby weight!

Going to have my cholesterol checked today. Last time it was checked was when I first started SB, so I am hoping for great results this time.

Great to see everyone still here on the Beach. For any newcomers, keep up the good work. This diet REALLY works as others will attest.

Have a good week everyone!:wave2:

Mary....I think there's an old wives tale about Halloween candy going bad the week after Halloween...so maybe you might want to just dish it all....:) I'm starting to get weak in the knees when I see those little M&M bags...how much could they hurt? But, I've made it this far and it saves me from having to buy/make dessert for the kids so I keep mine hidden away in the far recesses of my pantry...at this rate...it should all be gone by Easter...but I'm seriously considering dumping it one day. Stay strong and focus on a great Prom night! :) Nylon is my friend...even at my lowest, I need that nylon to hold everything in shape! :) So don't knock yourself about the nylon tummy huggers! :)

Leanne...WAY TO GO! Don't ya love Disney! Eating whatever you want and not gaining! :) Now, if I could just live my daily life walking 12 miles a day I'd be set! :) I'm new here....to the SBD way so it's nice to see folks sticking with the program!

Keep up the great work!
Tara

hello everyone. I know what you mean. Candy is not my weakness though. I can't stand anything to sweet anymnore. I can taste something with real sugar in it and gag!!! However, me an popcorn is also a different story. Love the stuff. Must have it at the movies!!!! Don't gain but I really don't feel that great afterwards. Just get back on it and you will do fine::yes::

leanne, welcome back. Hope you had a blast!!!I'm preparing for our trip in December. I have some PS at some places with foods that would be o.k., now that I'm in Phase 3 and can eat whatever I want. But you can bet that I'll go back to Phase 1 if I gain anything back. But with Disney and all that walking, it'll be hard to gain to much.

I'm still holding on everyone. I'm down to 128 and I feel great. I love this plan, and it works so well for me. I hope you all can accomplish everything you want to, cause let me tell you, it works:wave2:

Hi guys! Thanks for all the welcomes! :)

It took me a week but I read every single post on this thread. Very inspiring and encouraging! ::yes::

I just finished my first week and I feel so good! Not only am I not tired when I get up in the mornings but I haven't been getting that mid-afternoon I'm dying for a nap feeling either! I haven't been hungry at all except for one day when I was positively starving all day long! I'm glad that didn't last. There were several temptations along the way, fresh baked bread, tangerines and seasoned french fries but I didn't give in to any of them! :Pinkbounc

I weighed in this morning and I've lost 3lbs. and took off 1/2" in my thighs as well.

I've been completely on plan this week and worked out every day between 60-100 minutes each time.

I'm very happy with my first week! :teeth:

Welcome to Princess Michelle! Congrats on your weight loss, you must feel so good.

I'm going to try my best to post on our thread reguarly. I think I'm letting the lack of movement on the scale get me down and I shouldn't. I've made great strides over the past 11 months and SBD has been so instrumental in getting this far, not to mention the support from this board and this thread in particular.

I'm off to Hilton Head next Saturday for a week and am looking forward to some much needed down time. Thankfully we are DVC members so I plan to cook the majority of meals in the villa. At one point that would have seemed like torture and a lot of work but I'm really looking forward to making some of my SBD favs on vacation and we're even having a DVC meet the day before Thanksgiving. I'm bringing chicken and cole slaw made with splenda.

If you are just starting out on SBD, you are in for a treat! This program is so easy to follow and you will love the results you are getting. If you are a veteran, please know your presence here is so encouraging and it's wonderful to see so many familar faces when I do get a chance to peek in a post.

Everyone keep up the great work. Hugs to you all!

Thanks Lisa! :)

I also meant to mention that aside from the weightloss and feeling better, I also look better! My eyes seem to be a brighter shade of blue and my skin has been absolutely flawless this week! I've never had a problem with acne but my skin tone gets uneven and blotchy at times. This week it has been perfection. I definitely could get used to this!

Also, I noticed there was a little thing going on with half the people hating the ricotta creams and half the people loving them. I tried the vanilla one tonight for my first one and I have to say, I'm with the group that loves them. I thought it was so good, I would dare say that cold enough, it could have been a darn good substitution for vanilla ice cream! ::yes::

WAHOO!!! You are on your way!!! Congrats on a GREAT weigh in! If you're keeping up that level of exercise you won't be able to stop the scales...I'm so happy for you!!

And You're RIGHT!!! My complexion has cleared up...I never had acne or problems with my skin but over the past 8 months I've been under a great deal of stress and it showed on my face... I love the way my face feels now...smooth and no blemishes! And I'm a freckle face...so it's nice to only have freckles and not an oily T-zone! :)

I failed on my exercise goals this week....kids had strep throat and croup and my husband just returned from out of town yesterday, so I was homebound...should have put in an exercise DVD...but didn't...I'm about to go weigh in and I'll post how I did...And for everyone getting back into the program...stay strong and you've succeeded before let this attempt take you to goal! :)

Well, scales were not kind...but I feel fine....it was my first week adding carbs in...I had 1/2 piece of whole wheat toast daily, pistachios (about 20), that single peanut butter cookie, and yesterday I had chili without beans with 4 corn chips...the scales showed I was up 2.5 pounds. I'm okay with it because losing 12 pounds in 2 weeks was a big adjustment and I'm sure this 2.5 pounds is just an adjustment weigh in. And I laid out mulch and planted pansies all day yesterday and my legs are so sore..so I'm sure there's some muscle inflammation there as well...not worried...just will focus on keeping my carbs low and eating well.

Tara, I'm so sorry that you had a gain but you have the right attitude about it. I know that you will re-focus and do your best in the coming week. I'm sure you will have it off, plus more in no time! ::yes::

I'm sorry your kids were sick, I hope they are feeling better.

Michele, hey, what a great job you are doing. I know you must be feeling terrific. It will get better and better and better. Keep up the good work. :jumping1: :jumping1:

Lisa, it will be great to see you here more often. I miss your encouragement. I can't wait to continue to hear about all those inches lost!!! I still say it's better than losing weight::yes:: Keep your head up, I'm with wishing you one:teeth: :thewave:

Tara, don't be dismayed. Slow down on the carbs. Add them back slowly. Keep up the fruits and veggies. More natural that the breads and grains.

Hi everyone. I've been missing from the Beach thread for a while. I started SB on 6-21-04 with a total goal of 70 pounds, but since that is pretty much overwhelming, I broke it into smaller 10% goals.

My first goal was 10% (20.6 pounds) by the time I went to WDW in Mid-August. I missed my goal by less than a pound!! I allowed myself some treats on vacation, but got back on track upon returning from WDW. I set a second goal of another 10% (18.5 pounds) by Thanksgiving.

I was still losing and then I went to WDW AGAIN in October for Food & Wine Festival and MNSSHP. That darn Halloween candy was the start of my demise! After getting home, I had a hard time getting back on track and am still struggling. I've managed to not gain, but I haven't lost anything lately.

Ever since that candy, I know I've been overdoing it on carbs. I know this because I don't have that wonderful feeling of not being hungry! I have intermittent cravings and feel more tired again. And I feel more bloated around the middle.

I've thinking about going back to Phase 1 for a week to de-carb again. Does that make sense? Has this worked for anyone? Will one week be enough? I just have to get back on track NOW!!!

Thanks for listening!! I promise to check in more often. It helps having the support of my DIS friends!

YES! Go back to phase 1. In fact the book recommends it. I've done it several times and it has always worked for me. You probably need to put your body back on track and get all that candy and nasty stuff out of your system.

Good luck. It isn't hard to get back on once you fall off. It just takes a little will power.:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

MM, I'm still in Phase 1 myself so I haven't had a chance to go off plan yet but like Sheree' said, the book tells you that if you get off and out of control to go back to Phase 1. I would think that if you feel like you can get it together after 1 week that would be alright but if you still feel a little "weak" why not stay on it for the whole 2 weeks.

Good luck to you, I know you can do it! :)

I agree, go back to Phase 1 for a week or two. It will jump start your loss again. Remember, it is basically a detox period. If you feel bloated ( I know I did when I fell off the beach for a while) then you have sugars you need to detox out of your body. You will feel so much better. I am back at Phase 1 again. I should be moving on to Phase 2, but after my SIL's wedding ( I cheated more than I thought I would), I decided to add another week of Phase 1. So there are lots of us in the same boat, come and join us. We can all encourage each other. YOU CAN DO IT!:Pinkbounc

Well, howdy, everyone!! I feel like it's been forever since I've checked in!

Actually, it has been one unbelievably stressful time lately for me -- two weeks of fall break for the kids, which was fun but rather free-time-deficienct, then my DD4 got sick for an entire week exactly when the break was over, then my aunt and uncle came for a visit just as she got better, THEN my uncle had a medical incident that landed him in the hospital for three fun-filled days (nothing serious, thank God, just an adverse reaction to something he's been taking, and it's completely resolved now).

Anyway, the South Beach-related part of this is that after four count them FOUR full weeks, in which sleep was lost, schedules were scrambled, and anxiety was felt, I gained a grand total of --

Zilch.

Yup, in circumstances that a year ago would have driven me straight into the sticky arms of Lindt Caramel Crunch bars, and lots of 'em, I just -- didn't. Not that I was eating as much fresh food as usual, but it took the form more of having low-fat, sugar-free yogurt for breakfast most days instead of eggs, or a slice or two of flatbread with butter as a snack instead of a hunk of low-fat cheese.

Now, touch wood, things seem to have calmed down (except for Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, I point out sourly) (not that I don't love both holidays, it's just that a week of nothing in particular to do would be a Nice Thing right about now, that's all), and I've been enjoying getting back to normal, food-wise. I broiled a steak for dinner last night and ate it with baby asparagus, and thought aaaaahhhhhh.

So, for everyone who's pleased with their progress in the past four weeks or so, good for you!! ::yes::

For everyone who needs encouragement, just stick with this wonderful way of eating and you'll be amazed at the results!! :cloud9:

And for everyone at all, I'll be around a lot more now, and I look forward to being a part of everybody's journey to who they want to be!

Nice to 'see' you all again!

:sunny:

thotfulspot, nice to see you again!!! I know when I'm stressed, I haven't eaten like I used to either. I take it nice and slow and do things a different way than I did before.

thotfulspot ~ Way to go staying in control even in through the stressful times! Congratulations on getting through those 4 weeks without a gain. That really is a great accomplishment! ::yes::

Thanks for the advice about returning to Phase 1. I don't even remember reading - looks like it's time to review the book again to see what other things I might have forgotten! rolleyes:

Plus reading the material again might just give me the push I need to get going again. I know that I will feel better, so what am I waiting for?

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hi Everyone.

I'm new here and want to start SB. Lost 27 lbs 4 yrs. ago on WW, made lifetime, but haven't been following the program for awhile. I hate writing things down.

I definitely need to get started on some type of program. I don't even want to step on the scale yet or take my measurements. I can tell by the way my close are fitting and by how I look in our recent vacation pictures that I better lose close to 20 lbs. I picked up the SB diet book at my library last night and started reading it. I'm getting ready to start, but don't want to seriously begin until after TOM next week and Thanksgiving. I think I'll start officialy SB next Friday, the day after Thanksgiving! I promise to weigh in and take measurements.

So far this morning, I've had 2 cups of coffee with my ff vanilla creamer, and 3 egg whites with chopped onions, mushrooms and lowfat cream. Does this sound good? Do I need to follow exactly the phase I meal plan? I'll need to go grocery shopping since I don't normally have all these food items in the house.

After eating the eggs this a.m. I was still hungry and felt like I need to eat more. The only nuts I had in the house were slivered almonds, so I started eating those, mindlessly no doubt. So I probably blew it already.

Please give me some suggestions and food ideas to help me get through the next week until I officially start. I need all the support I can get! Thanks

Barb

Hi Barb
Welcome to the club. No you do not need to follow the phase 1 meal plans exactly. You need to follow the food lists especially in phase 1 while you cut your sugar cravings. I have not made one of the recipes in the book (I did look over them for general ideas on adjusting my eating). That is what I like best about the program you don't need to follow some preset meal plan, count or weigh things. At this point my body tells me when I've ate more of the wrong kind of carbs in a day. For example, yesterday we had a dinner at the church (we have it every Wednesday before bible study and choir). This week we had Baked Potato Bar (we don't know the menu until we arrive). I picked the smallest potato they had and only had about half of it but it was enough with the other carbs I had that I didn't feel right the rest of the evening not sick but just off.
Eating the almonds did not kill you for the day. Remember you are allowed some nuts during a day. For me nuts were one of the things I went over on during phase one but it kept me away from candy and other worse foods. I eat out alot two to three days a week. I have found resturants that I can eat at and get a good meal.
For me the fat free sugar free fudgepops were my craving buster in phase 1. It gave me a chocolate fix plus was close enough to Icecream to help there. The ones I get are 40 Calories each so even if I had 2 I was in the right ballpark for my snack. Sugar free jello is also a good phase 1 desert to give you at least the flavor of fruit.
I started several months ago just three weeks before my trip to Disney. I spent an extra week in phase 1 so I was just starting phase 2 before going to WDW. Starting right after Thanksgiving gives you enough time to get into phase 2 before Christmas so that sounds like as good of a time as any.

Goodluck
