Okay, credit for this really goes to my kid, cruecrazy. He has determined a way to maximize earnings every time you play the Haunted Mansion game. I am merely dutifully reporting it to my fellow Dis'ers so we can all reap the winnings. Some of you have already figured this out...

Here's the big secret. ;) When you play, be a one person team against 3 or 4 other players, and slurp up ghosts like crazy (play on VMK title intentional).

Here's what happens.

The other team has to fight each other for their own ghosts while you get as many as 100+ (if it goes to the third tie-breaker round). You also have many more opportunities to vacuum your opponents when they get Ghost-ified, and you get un-ghosted much quicker with 3 people running around with itchy trigger fingers.

The best way to do this is to take turns with 3 other friends. Each one gets his or her turn as the solo ghost-getter. Takes a little while to play 4 games, but even on the multiplayer team, you are earning. You can also help each other out by un-ghosting your friends (the opponents) so they can keep going without waiting to unghost. It is also advantageous to force it to go to a tie-breaker round by allowing the previous loser to win in the second round - more ghosts all around.

I've seen cruecrazy get as many as 500 credits in ONE GAME with this strategy (but he's REALLY good). I never get more than 300 to 400 credits, but this still works like gang... er ghostbusters. :)

Have fun.

Darn tootin. Look me up next time we're on. Woot!

Ok, I hate it when other people do this, and they are always booting others from 'their' green side, so the rest of us get stuck on purple fighting among ourselves for the few ghosts. This is especially unfair when there is a wait to get into play the game.

I really feel this is a blatant misuse of the boot button so that the orginator of the game can just get maximum credits at the expense of everyone else.

And before you say that you only do it with friends, let me say that it was the aforementioned player (that gets 'credit' for this idea) that booted me from several games, and then he also made it look like it would go through with semi fair teams and then booted others at the last second so the teams were 3 to 1.

Sorry, this strategy is only beneficial to the originator of the game, and it seems very cruel to me.

I don't like it when a player routinely does this. Last night, though, I did
play by myself against Moody and ppiglet, and one of them was not happy
I did this. (However, in the other games I started, I did have even teams,
or two on green against three on purple.)

I don't make a habit of solo playing unless I want to go one on one, which
I feel is fair. Mostly I prefer the small teams of one or two because I go
slow or crash otherwise.

So unless the friends agree to take turns going solo and wish to play that
way, great. But if the boy who gave this secret is doing it to everyone,
then I agree with Califgirl. It's not right.

(I must also admit that I feel cruel booting strangers when I only want to
play with friends.)

Ok, this is to everybody who reads this thread...

Look, when I found out he was doing that, he got a corrective talking to, and I told him to only do it with friends willing to help out. He's 13, and a typical boy that I work with everyday to teach that the universe doesn't revolve around him (just like most every parent has to do with every young teen kid). I have corrected him, and with this post, attempted to make good of it for the benefit of every Dis member selfless enough to want to work together to earn credits in the Haunted Mansion game.

Now, as any good parent should do, I type his defense:

He doesn't know who is who on Dis and plays VMK like many middle school kids would play many games. He's VERY competitive, but he's also very generous. This is the same kid that worked for 2 weeks to win space suit after space suit for many, many Dis friends who couldn't beat that game for nothing. In fact, he worked so hard on it that he burned out on VMK and people asking him for suits and quit playing anything for almost a month.

Good friends of ours on Dis/VMK get random gifts from him all the time. I've watched him ask people to "please go to another game" or to "please move to the other team if you want to play," and if they don't he'll boot. If he doesn't know someone, he might boot. I might too as I like to play with friends and typically round up people to go play with and when someone joins I don't recognise, I'll boot. That's why VMK put that feature in the game. Don't take it personally. It's just a game.

And it's a game with a " boot " feature. Join a team, you might get booted - that's a chance we take when we play.

So take the good out of this, get some friends together, and go take turns catching ghosts. Or not. If you read anymore into this thread then you totally missed the point.

You can take what I posted and use it to earn just about all the credits you would ever need to buy anything, or get your feelings hurt because my son (who is one of the kindest, most gentle, fun loving, and clever teens on VMK or anywhere else for that matter) had a brain-fart and actually acted his age.

Okay, my 2 cents here.

First as a parent, I want to know if my DS ILikeCheeze, ever does/says something that someone did not like. It IS the only way for a parent to take corrective action. So I do hope that people would advise me first, rather than take this public route.

As a parent that "wants to know when their child acts up", I myself had spoken with Surf once regarding his son, and as expected of any good parent, he did speak with his son and the issue was resolved, and has not been repeated.

I also can 'vouch' for the fact that his son does indeed gift people, which while not addressing his behaviour in the game, does go directly to the good parenting in the family that he has been taught generosity and caring. He is a teen, as mine is too. Boy, they can act up! But with parental knowledge and direction, can become the responsible, caring adults we all want them to be.

I am down off the soap box now, and would like to thank Surf and Crazy for the helpful information about the game. I have now finally played two games and do not think I have much hope of getting much better (LOL uld lame duck here) but I appreciate the intent of the thread.

Cool idea for those of us that are HM challenged ;). I try to remember if I get booted that it's probably because someone is playing with friends. On to the next game!

Also if you like even teams, you can wait and start the game yourself. Then you have the control you are seeking if you don't like the uneven.

I like to play it pretty much any way it is served up to me!

Thanks for all the information ppl!

I agree it does work. This is how I was just able to beat three people by myself after my team mate lost connection. The boot thing so you can play alone is wrong and so is the "Everyone join other side, I want to play alone". I think this is being a "point pig" and found the best way to handle it is just to bail out of that game. It is annoying as well when people sit there and keep booting and restarting games for as much as 5 minutes so they can get the teams exactly the way they would like them to be. I think this game gives the starter too much control. I think it is also wrong that I saw a Community Leader doing this today. Not a very good example. But yes it does work and when there are hardly any people there like first thing in the morning, I don't see the harm as long as there are not a bunch of people being booted that are waiting to play.

Oh I wanted to edit to add that I have not had any issues with the poster's son doing anything, though I have seen him in the lobby. :)

I have been the recipient of his generous gift giving nature and of his help in getting points ! Also his respect .

This is a young man to be proud of Cruise and Missypooh !

Cruecrazy.............you are all right in my book ! I will play opposite you ( or on the same team ) anytime !

HUGS ! ! !

Just to throw another twist in the booting saga, My 7 year old daughter is trying so hard to get good at HM. Last night she came up to me and said, "no one likes me on VMK, they always boot me off their game". Now tell me that didn't raise the mama bear fur a little bit. But I explained the teaming concept to her, and I then her and I played at the same time which she always loves.
So remember...you never know who you are booting when you hit that little button!

I for one hate the boot button. I enjoy playing however the teams come up because you get great points most of the time anyway. I also like that when you start the game, you can control when to begin it. I hate waiting for another starter to get the "perfect" game set up. Just click the stinkin' start button and lets get this thing rolling!!

So to each their own. Just be kind to one another!!

Wow, I've got to step in here quick and give my own 2 cents.

Cruecrazy is THE most generous kid in VMK. He has a heart of gold.

We should have a Dis HM ghost sucking party. I still need to learn how to get better at the game.

your son lol i get much more then him i get about 780 each game

Yavn himself said that the HM game is to relieve VMK of the mule'n, so this style of play is completely welcomed, and besides, I love having the freedom of not having "lalasupercoolpuppydogvampire" on my team.

Don't get me wrong - as long as everyone involved in the game knows it is a one-sided 3 against one situation and is ok with it, I don't have a problem.

It is when they boot with the intention of getting themselves maximum points at the expense of other players that it bothers me.

I find it hard to believe that Yavn would be okay with the situation this has created. It leads to a power struggle, inequity, and poor sportsmanship when 1 player is getting an unfair advantage at the expense of other players. Let's at least be nice and play fair in VMK. What kind of real world values is this teaching?

Let me restate, so long as everyone involved in the game is ok with the one sidedness, then I think it is ok. Just let those that you are booting know that you have preset teams.

(And while you may not want a certain player whose name you do not like, or who you do not recognize on your team, remember..most of us have mules and mules need credits too. You never know who you may be booting!)

The start button is really cool too!

It can allow you to host your own game with no worries of a boot! ;)

Lol, when I'm playing with other DIS, we make sure one of us starts the game. Sure works out alot better! lol

back on topic:

my self and two friends tried this last night, each giving each a turn at being the solo-primo and in turn, each of us getting 100+ ghosts at bat.

we got less than 200 credits with the win each time. :(
