Sorta OT...Bridal Shower on Mother's Day

I wouldn't plan anything for Mother's Day until you call the BRIDE'S mother.

OP, I had the same suggestion you made....although I would have said a brunch...on Saturday morning. If your nephew/his future wife aren't IN the friend's wedding what difference would it make? (Except that the friend can't attend obviously. And no doubt wouldn't attend the next day either.)

I would not attend a shower on Mother's Day.

The bride is in the wedding they are coming to town for. Anything on Saturday will detract from that bride's day. I know we had a VERY early start to the day for hair and make-up and pre-wedding pics for the last wedding I was in.

Under the circumstances, I'd skip the shower altogether, as a pp suggested.

I would not have or attend a shower on Mother's Day, and if the couple can't make a shower at any other time, then I'd just figure it's not to be.

Oh, I missed that she was IN the wedding. I totally agree then, that Saturday is out.

I'd also wonder...will there be a brunch for wedding attendees on Sunday? Around here most people have them.

There's just no one "right" answer. It depends on the people.

Personally, if I was family or really, really close friends I'd go whenever it was no matter what. And I wouldn't mind if we had to do a Skype shower. It's not tacky if all involved are in agreement.

But if it was my hairdresser, or some old college roommate I hadn't seen in years or something like that I just wouldn't go.

You can invite people and people need to feel free to pass on it if they don't want to come. Easy.

It seems that they have very limited choices and special circumstances. I will say that I had a baby shower on Mothers Day and it is very embarrassing to me now. Mothers Day was never a huge day for us growing up and it didn't even occur to me that it would be an inconvenience to people. Now that I am older and wiser I feel bad that I took Mothers away from their day.

When I had my first baby, my mother's friends (who knew me since I was a baby) wanted to have a baby shower for me in Mississippi. I lived in Texas at the time, 9 hours away. I picked a weekend that I could come back home and that is when they had the shower.
I really appreciated their thoughtfulness, so I made a point of getting back home for it.
