Anybody else getting this message when trying to search for a thread in the forums? (See subject)

Anyway, is there any internet service at the vacation villas? WiFi, Dialup, etc?

Thanks

The search will work when there are fewer users on the board using up space on the server. I believe that its programmed once there are so many users on the boards that search disables itself. I have had good luck searching first thing in the AM, before 8am Central. I have also searched later at night, but nights can be kind of hit or miss depending on if people are up late on the boards.

Internet service....you can use your own dial-up (ie AOL, Netzero) and just pay the 75 cent charge if it's a local call.

Wi fi and highspeed are currently being installed in resorts. I believe right now, CSR has it. BCV is suppsed to get in sometime in November, I believe. But I have no idea on the rest of the timetable.

Yep...same here. I have rarely had any luck with the search function.

The search disabling function during peak hours was a good decision by the DIS webmasters. Searching a huge database like the DIS Boards is a very asset consuming process, and a few people searching would affect the speed of hundreds of other users.

I've used the search function in off hours (very late at night or very early in the morning) and it worked.

So as DVC members we can appreciate that the searching privilege is only revoked when the boards are at full capacity....and not just revoked because they think the boards will be full! ;)

The others have explained about the Search function.

If you will let us know which villas you're staying at, someone is bound to know what type of internet access you can expect to find. :D

Good one, Granny! Thanks for the smile! :)

as dvc members don't we only pay like 30 or 35 cents per call?

I keep netzero on my tablet for traveling - we have wireless at home, but netzero is convenient for a lot of the places I've traveled to. I think you get like 10 hours free per month - there is an ad on the top of the page, but it is fine for getting your e-mail or whatever. There are a ton of numbers for it that are local from wdw, the only bad thing is I could never get any of them during the week I tried because they were all busy. So I'm not sure if netzero is as good a thing in the orlando area as it has been for some other places I traveled to.

Now, they are putting in high speed lines, and there will be wireless from the pool at the beach club. The high speed lines are 9.95 a day; the wireless access at beach club is 4.99 for the frist hour, 9.95 for the 24 hour day.

Here is the estimated time table for getting the high speed up and running -

Coronado Springs - Oct. 1, 2003
Yacht & Beach Club Resorts - Nov. 4, 2003
Contemporary Resort - Dec. 2, 2003
Grand Floridian - Dec. 2, 2003
BoardWalk (including DVC units) - Dec. 30, 2003
Saratoga Springs - Jan. 30, 2004
Villas at the Wilderness Lodge - Feb. 27, 2004
Old Key West - April 2, 2004

I guess you have to have your own ethernet cable to use it (and card and laptop of course) - the business center at the beach club will be selling wi-fi cards, but if I didn't have one I think I'd get one before I got there ;)

Here are the places that will have wireless access-

Grand Floridian - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Beach Pool

Contemporary - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool

Yacht Club - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Stormalong Bay Pool

Beach Club - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Stormalong Bay Pool

Coronado Springs - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool, Francisco's
