Is this a permanent thing? I don't use search often but it sure comes in handy when I'm looking for an old post.

alex explained it somewhere that if there are too many people on at one time it shuts itself down. i find late at night/early in the morning and sunday afternoons the best time to use it.

While it can be frustrating to not be able to search, in one regard it is a good thing -- it shows how heavy the flow of traffic is here at the DIS.

I find that the best times are before 7 AM and after 11 PM. Sometimes do a resort by clicking on the various column heading labels will help you sometimes in finding what you are looking for.

How about Google for the DIS?!?!?!?!

When there are many logged n the DIS the search engine automatically turns off,or we would crawl. It is done so that we are able to get on...I would rather log on than search anyday. It is best to search early in the morning or late at night.
