I find changing shoes/sandals during the day helps, too. I usually wear UnderArmour flips (the ones with memory foam) during the day and switch to GoWalks in the evening (or vice versa). SmartWool makes a 'ped' style sock that doesn't show over the shoe that I really like. Another vote for Body Glide here, too! I put it where the flip flop straps are and all over the top of my foot, back of heel for the shoes. I have to wear an ankle brace due to a bad fracture a few years ago (pinned & plated) so I've also started carrying a mini-microfleece towel (not much bigger than a washcloth) in my back pack to dry my feet off after water rides or if they get really sweaty. Most of my problems arise from wet or sweaty feet rather than ill fitting shoes!
A hot shower, elevated feet/legs, peppermint lotion, & 2 pain pills of your choice at bed time.
