sorcerers hat going from DHS?

So just read that the famous Saucerer's hat is going from DHS, my question is why?

it's such a massive icon i'm not sure why you would remove it! we also didn't like it when the wand was removed from Epcot ball, as for us anyway, it looked so much more connected to disney with it.

i understand things grow and evolve as with the addition of new lands and we LOVE this! new areas to explore and enjoy. sometimes i think maybe it's change for change sake!

I read this in 2010 and then never heard anything else about it. But when we were in WDW 2 weeks ago all the icon merchandise was the castle, space ship earth, tower of terror and the tree of life. I hate the hat and think its a shame to hide the building behind it.

I remember back before the Hat - the icon used to be the earful tower. I also hate the way it hides the Chinese Theatre from view as that is truly stunning building.

TBH I wasn't overly worried when the wand went either - maybe I am just a purest and like things how they were originally designed

I didn't realise that they were actually considering removing the hat just now. I do know for certain that there are some very strong, divided opinions regarding the hat, which I understood to have been intended as a short term feature, but ended up staying for years.

I like the hat and would be sad to see it go. But then again, my first experience of DHS the hat was already there so for me it's hard to picture it without it's icon. We get used to seeing things after they have been there for a while and the same will go for the change. I haven't read your link yet because I can't access it from where I am at the moment but I'm keen to have a read about this. Thank you for sharing with us

I feel exactly the same keep it the way it should be. I love space ship earth the way it is. The design and work that went in to space ship earth is amazing. It doesn't need a wand on it.

That's it! the first time we went in 2007 the wand was there and we thought it looked amazing! i would imagine if i saw it before, it would have look odd! i think it looks bare without it!

It's good you have a ticker though! We are planning to go the last two weeks of August this year but nothing is booked yet so i don't have a ticker!

First time I went to DHS, it was in 1990. The park didn't even bear the same name (found it hard to stop calling it MGM Studio) and the Earful Tower was THE brand new icon.

When the sorcerer's hat came to the park, it was ... well ... something completely different (sorry, monty python addiction ...)

It blocked the view of the Chinese theater.
Of course it was cool, it was a new thing, but now it looks like a sore on the park's face.

I don't mind it being there, but I'd be happy to see it go too.

But I remember the park without that thing. I wish I could get these memories back.

I can only remember a time where the Earful Tower was the landmark, and the view up the street to the Chinese Theatre wasn't obstructed, so I am glad if they are going to remove it.

me too i don't mind that much but for me it is the icon of the park so wondered what the new one would be x

Its only a rumour and the same rumour has been about for a while.

It will be great if they do add the Star Wars 'land' seeing as my son & husband are big Star Wars fans.

Yeah, unlike the other park icons which are actually used (Spaceship Earth, BBB and CRT in the castle and ITTBAB in the Tree of Life)

I'm minded to make sure I get a sorcerers hat for myself just so I have one next time I go. At least I got my charm for my charm bracelet
