SOOO furious! (Work related vent)

Oh yuck. What an icky thing to be dealing with.

The one bright spot I see is that your supervisor immediately was sure it wasn't you. That shows that she really knows what you are like and you obviously have a good reputation. I hope you can at least take comfort in that.

That really stinks! It is nice that your manager believes in you, though. I would probably voice my suspicions (to your manager), but with your coworker leaving, it would be very hard to catch them at this point. My hospital has done some pretty elaborate stuff to catch people in the act. They have fired RNs who use and some of these RNs have had disciplinary action against their licenses. I don't know if it is just my hospital, or if it is like this everywhere, but I have gotten to the point that I feel like there are more healthcare providers using then we want to believe. I think I used to be pretty naive and idealistic, but I have become more jaded. I have felt pretty shocked and betrayed by some of the people who I have found out have had problems. Some of them have cleaned up their acts and attend a recovery group for health care providers religously, and others have simply moved on to new places to steal drugs. I wouldn't want anyone to think that it is a large percentage of RNs doing this, but in the last two years I have come across 4 that I directly work with and one recovering addict. I have become so careful about witnessing wastes and asking others to actually watch me waste, just to make sure that I am accountable. We have all worked too D**n hard to lose our reputations as RNs to drug seekers. It hurts us all when a team member is using. :sad2:

BTW, I like the idea of the fingerprint pyxis and my hospital is looking at it. However, I think that in most of these cases, the RN is documenting that she gave the stuff and didn't rather than steal a coworker's password.

Thank goodness it happened on your day off and your supervisor has faith in you. I'm wondering if she knows exactly who is responsible and it was her way of asking you (and probably most of your co-workers) to keep an eye out?

That is exactly what I think too, ducklite. The sup knows who's doing this but obviously can't say. She divulged as much as she could in an effort to let the others know to keep an eye out.

OP, I hope your night was okay...

I am sorry that happened to you! It has to feel even worse with it being someone you consider a friend. I don't know what I would do in that situation, but I do know I would be changing my code ASAP.

:grouphug: While not exactly the same, at my last job I had someone who was taking what wasn't theirs, but in such a way that it cast others under suspicion.

When we figured it out, it was depressing that someone I considered a friend thought nothing of stealing and making it look like others were doing it. (This person was confronted and confessed all)

I'm with the others that tell you to go to the supervisor and let her know your suspicions. If it is that person, do you want him/her to go to the next job with a clean slate?

Not in the medical field, but I have to say, the pyxis system sounds like the way for hospitals to go.

Hang in there.

Suzanne

What a nerve wracking thing to have to deal with, but sounds like you are not suspect, but this is awful for you nonetheless.

I'm wondering...can they use or don't they use video wherever you take the drugs from? I would think that would be extremely helpful because of these things.

Hope this person is caught and you can relax, dishonest people sicken me.
