I was all set on getting the S100 but I read a lot of recent reviews from June and July of people reporting "lens errors" on their cameras making them useless so that steered me away from it.
Havoc315 what setting did you shoot the pictures of the people on their bicycles? It's so vivid and crisp!! Also I took a pictures of my nieces birthday cake on the gourmet setting and I didn't get the crisp vividness that you get with your food pictures. Is there a trick to it?

Bicycles -- HDR painting picture effect. Supposed to give the illusion of an oil painting. I was shocked it gave me any results where the subjects are in motion ( as it combines multiple images).
Cake -- using the gourmet settings. Food shots are really about composition, most people compose food shots poorly. Often from too far away, or from a bad angle. Just try to fill the frame with the food, zoom with your feet, not with the optical zoom, (as long as you can focus) and shoot from a 45 degree angle. Of course, you can play around with other compositions, but those basics should get you nice looking shots.
I agree. But the G1X has received mediocre reviews from the beginning which is really a shame. A lot of people are missing out on a great camera in the G1X.
