woohoooooooooo I just bought a Sony A700:cool1: :thumbsup2

You are funny! :lmao: And BTW - Congratulations!:flower3:

umm uhhhh thanks...

it's funny you should say that, when I left the office earlier I went to a company event, and one of my coworkers introduced me to her 3 sons and told them that I was fun,, so I guess I'm fun and funny...I guess that's better than being a grumpy old man..

I'm freakin' excited I love new photography toys...ummm I mean tools...

I'm trying to decide which model I want to call to set up a shoot . I can't let just anyone be the first to be shot with my new camera..:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

the A700 is over 1000 body only

as for the A900 and a cheap full frame sensor dslr..

granted it's Sony now, but Minolta had a reputation of pricing their pro stuff way under Nikon and Canon ,that's what they've always been known for, better bang for your buck, cameras..
Well, I don't think that's the way Sony operates. :teeth: Check the lenses - several lenses are more expensive from Sony than comparable lenses from Canon and Nikon. A couple quick examples; their 100mm macro is almost $100 more than Canon's, their 70-200mm is about $300 more than Canon's w/IS (and $800 more than Canon's w/o IS!) and $375 more than Nikon's w/IS. Their 300mm F2.8 is about $1,800 more than Canon and $1,400 more than the Nikon, and again, the Canon & Nikon have the extra cost of IS in the lens. Their 24-70mm F2.8 is about $550 more than Canon's and $50 more than Nikon's. Etc.

Whatever may have happened in the past, Sony's pro stuff is definitely pricier now. I would guess that the A900'll be closer to $5k (or more!) than $2.5k... time will tell, though.

it may very well be, which is why I pounced on the A700 today,

one advantage they have is the fact that they make their own sensors, so theoretically they can use the profits from selling sensors to Nikon, to help offset the cost of the sensors in their own cameras..,

their lenses might be more expensive, but I was just reading a thread earlier over on photo camel, andf a few photographers were discussing that and the general consensus is that Minolta glass was among the best, and the new Sony lenses are made in the same factory, by hand at the rate of one per day

as for this
Their 300mm F2.8 is about $1,800 more than Canon and $1,400 more than the Nikon, and again, the Canon & Nikon have the extra cost of IS in the lens.
theoretically the Sony lens will last longer and take more abuse, since it doesn't have the is electronics to fail..

I just think it's great that your so excited and were able to post right away. ;) It's fun to share the news too! :yay:

you have no idea how excited I really am, I was just over at photo camel and the big news on a sony thread was that some best buy stores are clearancing the A700 for $900..:thumbsup2 they confirmed my theory that best buy is making room for the A300 and A350

I arrived at my 6 oclock work event at 730...LOL.. I told everyone I was late because I was busy buying another camera.. :cool1: :cool1:

my coworkers are used to me always buying new gear, I have 2 chairs in my work area one for me, and a high back black leather chair for my camera bag...:lmao: :lmao:

I had to add this to this thread...
in this day and age when all we hear about are the bad things that people do, it is easy to forget that there really are wonderful people out there.

the OP of this thread is one of them..KAT4DISNEY checked with her best buy to see if they had an A700 left, gave me their phone number, I called bought the camera by phone,, she then drove 30 miles one way to pick up the camera, packaged it in her A700 box since mine was the display model and had no box, then went to the UPS store, called me from there, and explained things to me , then put me on with the UPS Lady, we worked out the details I paid by phone, and my A700 should be in my hands Friday,

if that isn't just awesome I don't know what else to call it

thank you, thank you ,thank you..

Fact is that it's much more camera than what I probably need, but if I get back into photography again then I've got a good body to go with.

I've been reading back thru this thread and this jumped out at me.I was going to ask for pictures, then realized you were talking about the new camera..
