Son's birthday dinner

I am taking my 3 kids to WDW this December, we will be there my my son's birthday. He will be turning 9. I am keeping the trip a surprise Christmas present, so I can't really talk to them about the trip. We are staying at POR and I purchased the dining package. Can someone recommend a fun disney restuarant to have a good and fun birthday dinner? He loves all the characters and american food, any advice?

How about Chef Mickeys? It's alot of fun and I believe you can order a cake in advance What a great way to spend a birthday! Have fun
